Almost all bass rods are now going to split grip but walleye, trout and panfish seem to retain the full grips more. I personally see no functional difference between the two when considering casting alone. I cast two handed, and have always grabbed towards the butt of the rod. Simple lever physics and that’s just what’s comfortable for me. I personally am not aware of anyone who does cast gra

I’ve used a Lews production rod that had microwaves and I was throughly impressed with them. I haven’t built any rods with them just because a KR SiC guide train is about the same cost or less. Like others, if I could buy the first two reduction guides then I would probably build with them

Hey Francis- in the past they were fast. I’d have a colored rod at my door within 2 weeks. The last time i ordered back in August it took a little over 5 weeks. That’s heard of a few guys having similar issues too. Mudhole- I appreciate the response. I typically order all my parts through you guys and have built on MHX blanks too which were great. I’m not trying to put down CRB blanks, but giv

My first ever build was a CRB 6’6” ML and I just completed 6’6” L rod for my uncle. I’m not a fan of the CRB blanks at all. I originally bought the 6’6” ML for bigger stream trout felt like it was a Med-Mod/fast rod. The power and action on the rod were completely off from what was expected. It was way too stiff for light trout lures and live bait. It makes a decent bass rod but there’s much

I can’t offer much advice as I’ve only built one fly rod. 6’6” 2wt RS Revelation for small mountain stream native Brook trout. It’s a short rod, relatively inexpensive blank and my first fly rod build but it roll casts much better and casts just as far with less effort as my Orvis Clearwater 8’6” 5wt. It honestly surprised me how well this rod casts compared to a $250 rod. I ordered a reel sea

I was a big fan of the original veritas and I absolutely loved the handle/reel seats of the Last gen Fenwick Elite Techs. Never found another like them that I could use to build my own. Imo NFC is above and beyond the veritas and Fenwicks. You could absolutely build a better rod for cheaper especially once you ge to to the $200 retail price range. For instance, I built on an NFC XRay SJ736,

Hey Francis, I’m in CNY (herkimer county) and as far as I know, it’s just a roll of the dice and taking advice from forums to get peoples perspectives on blanks to help decide. I rarely go downstate so I’m unaware of any places locally to you. Delaware Valley Tackle (misleading name, it’s in Fort Plain, Montgomery County) is a custom rod shop that uses strictly Mudhole blanks. Might be worth w

Have heard mixed reviews on them. Some say they are just as good as NFC (which I doubt as a couple are sponsored by Kistler), and others claim they aren’t nearly as crisp or as sensitive as the pre 2022 rods. i have a hard time spending $250 for a blank knowing I can get an XRay or even a SCV for less.

In my humble opinion, and based off of just a couple years of building, casting tends to require more guides than spinning. Since casting guides are placed on top of the blank in a traditional train, more guides are required to avoid the line touching the blank when under load. With spinning guide trains, the guides are spaced out based on the properties of the rod during a two line static test

I’ve only built around 10 Rods total so I don’t have much experience. Fish- largemouth and smallmouth bass Favorite rod- NFC XRay SJ736. Originally bought the rod for a Texas rig rod but after building it realized it was a bit light for what I wanted to use it for. It has a perfect action for small finesse jigs and weightless senkos. Brown and rainbow trout RodGeeks C266ML. Not the most

Long time lurker, first time poster. Im very new to rod building as I’ve only been building for 2 years now (only 10 builds under me, majority have been with RodGeeks blanks). I had the exact same issue with RodGeeks back in September. I ordered 2 blanks to build for my cousins. It took approximately 5 weeks for delivery after they accepted payment. I emailed them around week 3 asking for an u
