Tom, I can understand what you are saying. However, it seems like excess for the sake of sounding "more custom". To accomplish what you are talking, you would need to be in the room or video conferencing the user. Watching them handle a rod and maybe even moving the reel seat on the fly. It seems simple to ask what their current favorite rod handle lengths is based on butt t

You measure from the back of the reel seat. Where the grip and seat meet. It is very easy to keep consistent handle lengths this way. It doesn't matter how the user holds their rod. The handle doenst change. You can ask the user to measure their current favorite rod and deliver the exact same length.

Just built one with an 8" grip for kayak guy. It feels awesome and light even with the short handle. I'd say 9" would be a good all around length for that rod power and applications.

Die hard Daiwa guy here. There is no substitute for a high quality reel. A poor quality reel can really ruin a day on the water. I think spinning reels are more finicky when it comes to line management. A poor quality spinning reel can result in line twist and a day of tangles. Baitcasters have come a long way and many of the high end features from Daiwa and Shimano have trickle down

Looking again, the travel MB705-4 will fish completely different than a traditional MB704? Why not adjust wall thickness to achieve performance we are used to for said model numbers? I am failing to understand the lineup. Seems to go from Medium straight to Heavy+. There are rods in the FW series with 1-6 line ratings with lure ratings over an ounce. Does the rod 4-piece have a normal 705

Alex, Thank you for the insight into the blank construction. Looks like the mb683 is a good all purpose bass rod. What would compare to the Delta SJ705 or SJ706? Thank you very much for the help. Too much cool new stuff!

Alex, Looking at the MB704 @ 2.5oz and the MB683 @ 1.7oz Why is the 704 so heavy? Why are the models lure ratings so high? The MB704 is rated to 1.5oz but listed as Medium and labeled a 4 power? There seems to be no consistent formula here. I'd be open to ordering a blank but I have zero idea what I am going to receive.

Mudhole says it's discontinued... I thought I saw Mudhole purchased Thread Master. Who do they think they are?... Johnny Morris? Now I have to try new stuff and I'm not happy.

If you plan to build more in the future...here is my go-to list after spending way too much and simplifying everything. - Hand wrapper - no need for power and the CRB with tension rod is nice. You can backup easily. - Finish/dryer - Flexcoat variable motor is awesome for sub 200. Comes with slip clutcha and can do it all. A little loud but who cares. - tools - razor blades, burnisher
