Yea I can do it myself but every time I look for information about it or ask I get guys telling me that it adds too much weight to the blank and that there’s no paint that will hold up to the constant bending, and my argument to that is your gonna tell me all the thread work some guys do weighs less than paint? And if paint won’t hold up than what is MHX and st croix and every manufacturer who pa

So I’m working on a casting rod and I can’t find winding checks in the color I want, is it possible to just add pigment to some epoxy and make a winding check? And if so how would I go about making it clean

No offense taken mark, I realize that my original question was slightly amateurish lol, I just read something on a st croix rod and took it as something completely different. That being said I have never coated a rod in FC, I’ve actually ever coated an entire rod to begin with. I’d like to but i don’t know the correct stuff to use, I typically will just do a 6” portion of the rod just above the f

David parsons I do the same thing, I’m still looking for the best finish to do this with as I’m relatively new to rod building and having a lot of fun, what do you find is the best finish for adding powder to

So I was recently reading the description of a st croix legend elite and it says that it has 2 coats of flex coat slow cured finish, I was under the assumption that you could not coat a entire blank with FC, so my question is, can you?

I have found tons of mica powders that I’ve been thinking of using do they have to be from voodoo or any powder pigment will work? Not that I have anything against voodoo just if they don’t have the specific color

Joel wick that sounds like a good idea would airbrushing the desired area and then varnishing over it work so I don’t have that build up of epoxy ?

Chris that looks awesome, that’s all I’m looking for something that’s not like completely in your face just something that at certain angles or in the sun light pops. I was almost thinking about mixing a little bit into finish and doing a coat over the desired area would that be a possibility??

Joe That’s the desired effect I’m going for now would I mix the pigments into epoxy and Do a thin coat over the area I want? Or would epoxy be the wrong product for this application, and as to everyone giving me information and ideas thank you all so much this is REALLY helpful guys

Not a ton of area I was looking into wrapping it with thread but just the portion between the winding check on the foregrip and the first guide, if I was to airbrush it, what type of paint do you recommend? Thanks!

Soooo I’m relatively new to rod building and I’ve been looking for the best and most professional way to accomplish this, can anyone give me some detailed instruction on getting a color shifting effect onto the rod not the whole blank just between the foregrip and first guide
