I think I know what I did, someone said that acetone will strip the epoxy if I need to restart…. I have 2 cans one has acetone one has dna in it. I think I may have accidentally used the acetone to wipe down the blank before application… I feel extremely stupid hahaha

It was 3 ccs of each part I mixed thoroughly for about 5 mins then applied. Idk what I did wrong but it’s still tacky after week. Guide wraps are all cured up just the portion over the rod decal is the part that’s giving me a problem. Thinking about sanding with scotchbrite and re applying

I finish my rod with pro kote epoxy which I’m pretty sure is the low build, it’s been several days in a climate controlled shop, I’m pretty sure I was dead on with the 1:1 mixture of part a and part b. I’ve heard low build can take a while but is almost a week normal? Or did i do something wrong

Mark! My man thank you so much! So much information there, I should have included in fairly new to rod building so everything is a learning experience right now, just like you I’m highly critical and I probably shouldn’t be with where I am in regards to my experience at the moment. Looks like we gotta order another blank and try! Thanks everyone!

Absolutely love my apfg 745 my favorite bladed jig rod I’ve ever had! But okay I’m definitely going to have to give all these techniques a try. I understand perfect is probably unachievable but as close as possible I mean. One more thing with sanding, if I sand it will the new coat clear it up again and fill all the little scratches, I’ve never sanded epoxy before

Hi so I just finished my nfc apfg745 sick build, but I’ve always had the same problem when covering labels where the finish is even and levels out but it’s not perfectly even, any recommendations for a perfectly level finish over your rod decal

Spencer I never thought of that I like that idea, and norm I’m definitely keeping it mud hole just called and is sending me a new insert free of charge so that’s really awesome they are doing that. I will look into those reel seat that sounds nice not needing an insert! Thanks both of yous big big help!!

So I already bought it and received it and it says it fits the reel seat but in fact doesn’t, the insert will fit only to where the blank hits that .551 mark and no further it’s definitely too tight, and the reel seat without the insert is literally right in that sweet spot where it’s just still too big and would leave too much of a gap between it and where the blank would be exposed

Sounds good thanks norm! Now I kinda wanted a reel seat with a hidden thread locking hood the American tackle g2 has a ID of 0.600 with insert and is a size 16 would this work??

So I’m building a nfc fastbglass, where I want the reel seat to end up is roughly 14mm 13.995mm to be exact, I purchased a size 16 crb gec2 reel seat with a ct150 insert. The insert doesn’t fit the reel seat or the blank to where I need it to. Contacted mud hole about it not fitting reel seat and they said it’s the wrong insert so that’s solved. But my question is what size should I be using a 16

The rod is a 7’4” and I’m not worried about it. My worries were calmed pretty early on, I had no idea this was a topic still so fresh from that last incident. But I’m happy with all the explanations I got. And I’m surely happy with the blank and the manufacturer all together. I’ll do better next time and be more clear and concise about what exactly I’m looking at and I’ll definitely get the app s

So for anyone wondering at the highest point the tip is 1/2” off the ground and at the lowest it is pretty much flat

Les cline I completely understand, but from the start I feel like I’ve been alienated here because I was worried about something I never said a bad thing about north fork composites or anyone here for that matter. I don’t know how to post pictures here if I did I would have. Nobody has explained how to do so. And I was totally happy with Aleks explanation.

I don’t think I could’ve said it anymore that it’s a good blank I just had a concern. Never did I once say a bad thing about the company. Man I thought this was a different place than it really is.

And what the ceo said about glass drooping in my opinion that holds water because I have a shimano slx glass cranking rod that has almost and identical curve in the blank

I’m sorry if I offended anybody with this post I was unaware of the other post prior to mine which is my fault. I’m new to rod building I’ve heard great things about NFC given their reputation and being a “loomis” company I didn’t hesitate to purchase a blank. Which is my first blank from them. When I saw the curvature I was just a little taken back, sure I probably used the wrong words to descri

I never said I wasn’t happy with the blank. I really like it, it’ll be a amazing bladed jig rod apfg 745. I was just concerned if this was going to be an issue while building

I’m fine with having a insert I just didn’t know because of there only being one size! That makes more sense the crb gce2 is very comfortable which is the one I have
