Thanks guys! Looking back I think my issue is the reaming because I’m having to make the hole so big for this rod I have had a death grip on the cork and am digging out with the reamer. I don’t think I had this issue with the other rods because I wasn’t having to ream hardly anything out. I’m thankful for this community and the wealth of knowledge found here!

Hi guys, I have another cork question. I bought a lathe a few months ago to start making my own grips. I’ve successfully turned four grips now after wasting probably 60 rings worth of grips. I thought I had a solid process down (I’m learning as I go) by gluing the rings, clamping, taking a sanding block to the grip on the lathe to get a uniform shape, then shaping (with strips of sandpaper)

I should have clarified that the few “higher end” rods I own have them. When I say higher end I am really only talking orvis rods BUT I have used other rods before from other companies that use 1/4” rings. I thought the same as you guys. Just more work right? But why would they do that? I was just curious.

Sorry if this is a repeat question, I tried to search if it has been asked before on here but don’t really know what I’m doing. I was wondering if there is a benefit to making cork grips using only 1/4” thick rings instead of 1/2” rings? I’ve always used 1/2” rings but noticed a lot of “higher end” rods are built up using 1/4” rings and was wondering why that would be. Thanks guys for your

I don’t think a 5wt would be overkill. Their faf rods are another good option to go with. I built a 6wt and an 8wt. In short, I think you’ll be happy with anything from nfc. They also have an online catalog that breaks down what each rod is best used for you may find helpful.

Jake, I can’t recommend NFC enough. Not trying to take away from the other brands mentioned however. I’ve built 6 already for myself this past year and am waiting on two more that had to be warrantied. If you’re interested in glass their iconoglass rods are seriously impressive and the price can’t be beat. Those would be good blanks to get your feet wet with nfc. You are correct, the 4 weig

Aleks, I came here after your website because I couldn’t find that to save my life for the iconoglass rods. Thanks for helping this blind bat out! Now for the fun part: reaming cork to fit a 10wt fiberglass butt section lol Thanks again!

I’m with Phil as well. I’ve tried power reaming with my drill and have ruined some grips that I was really proud of. I’m not saying for you to not power ream because you may have better luck at it than I have, but for now I’ve learned to just enjoy reaming by hand.

Hi everyone, Has anyone built up a 10wt iconoglass? If so, I was looking to get suggestions on guide spacing you used. It looks like my order I placed for guides will be delayed and I was wanting to go ahead and at least have a starting point I can adjust from once I test cast. Thanks Al

I like for it to saturate the threads and then wipe off the excess if any. Then I’ll do a second coat for in case if I missed any spots. That usually works good for me.

Hi guys, I’m wanting to get decals of either my signature, but if that’s too complicated, my name in print. Here’s the catch though, I want them to be holographic. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Alex

Hi all, I just wanted to share a few positive notes on NFC. First, in response to my last posting here regarding some quality control issues/communication with NFC, Aleks, the owner, personally called me and chatted for a little while. He’s a super guy and him reaching out like that means a lot to me as a customer. Sometimes things happen and it’s nice being confident that when something mi

Just placed an order for a 10 wt iconoglass and a medium heavy apfg. I have a medium light apfg that I’m waiting to get parts to build as well. I’m super excited to fish those apfg rods. They seem nice and I won’t have to worry as much about them getting a little bit of abuse!

You used the term harass in your post in relation to my post on the forum was harassing the company, which it wasn’t.

Aleks is right. I got hasty and frustrated out of impatience honestly. Dealing with NFC is different than some of the other companies I’ve dealt with and his factory bit of his response cleared that up for me. I’m willing to be patient with NFC because the quality is there and as an American, I want to see a US company survive, especially one of such quality. I didn’t mean any ill will towards N

I love NFC blanks. My wife just ordered a couple blanks for my birthday that arrived yesterday and upon inspection, saw a few concerning things. First, I had ordered an 8 weight gamma beta blank and received a 10 wt? (At least according to the decal that came with it.) I can’t find any measurements online of tip and butt sections to confirm but compared to other rods I own, the rod sent to me is
