Here is one measurement that is close to what you are looking for.
I can't find it at the moment but Norm had shared a weight for Fuji guides sometime this last summer I believe. May just need to try the search function and look around a bit.

Pre assembled seats could be a decent time saver for those making a lot of rods based on those seats. I have never minded assembling them, but can see where it is a good option when doing a quantity of rods.

AbraizX is one of the stiffest FC lines I have ever used. No doubt that won't hang on a spinning spool!

I agree that the ALPS carriage is the weakest link on the whole setup. I started my rodbuilding on the MH dual carriage and really like the tension management on it since it is visual. The smooth bearing system is a nice feel too.

I don't go past 10lb on a 3000 reel. The trick is to spool your line on the reel warm because the FC does have memory but it is harder to train. Slightly warming it makes it supple and trainable. I spool by putting the line in a big bowl with warm water and heating it up for a minute or so. Then spool onto the reel out of the hot water. Using the big rolls helps too.

No doubt TNF is part of the puzzle, and likely a large part, but much like other tubular structures the frequency needs to be read at the right spot. I fish with my index finger on the blank above the seat. If I could tune a rods frequency to be at max value in the exact spot my finger lies...that would be ideal. I will experiment some once I get my new shop setup. I am going to try to tune a fre

Since our last discussion on potential to measure sensitivity using TNF I went into deep thought and referred back to my studies of barrel harmonics. If you look at the image you will see an oversimplification of harmonic frequency travelling through a raw blank. Where the wave crosses your zero point (midline) you will have minimal effect and where the peaks and valleys lie you will have the

What are you thinking of for the build?
I am struggling between spinning for shakey head or possibly jerkbaits pending action. Or a casting rod. All for bass.

I used Testor's pigment.

I do indeed check them. My first foray into NFC started from CCS data provided by Norm here. I then compared the NFC catalogue (not website) specifications to compare to what was listed for the ones I had data for. Any blanks ordered based on

Wrapping/labeling/finishing has been absolutely no issue with any of the builds I have worked on. The most popular x-ray now come polished too so on those...
I personally bought just about all the blanks I wanted to try from x-ray line during one of the $75 free shipping events. So I put hands on and did not invest too much in the specs.
I will say my only annoyance, now that you mention it

Aside from early complaints on shipping in the forums, I have heard nothing but good things and experienced nothing but good things. Research what people say about the manufactured rods on their blanks and you typically f

I personally recommend doing as David said and building them identical. IE both spinning. I say this because fishing Vision 110s and other 110 sized jerkbaits, I prefer a spinning rod. If you watch the jerkbait legends they mostly recommend spinning as well.
The other reason is that when out fishing and you decide to size up to the 5/8 jig your transition between baits will be easier as the r

I will answer this the same way I answer the age old, "What did you catch em on?"
Answer: Experience
Long answer is that I would recommend a read such as "Magic Wands" and just redact any mention of manufacturer. As anglers, over the years, we have trial and errored our way to know what works best for different baits and what different baits work well for the target quar

I was raised in the PNW on the Olympic peninsula. I moved away to the South after graduating high school. Shortly after my Grandfather became ill with cancer. He was and is my mentor. He taught me everything I knew about fishing and hunting our areas. I scheduled a return home for what I knew to be our last hike up the Duckabush river for trout fishing. I decided to start rod building so I could

Max bend on the rod happens right at the moment you get into your forward swing. If you release the line then you will not cast as intended. Unless you aim like I do in golf. About 90 degrees away from where you want to hit it. From the instant you start your fore-swing on, the rod is indeed unloading.

This is 100% false. The line is not release

I believe he is saying the tip doesn't load enough during the cast to sling frogs as well as he prefers.

Full cure here too. I leave the left overs in my dish from first application. Once the leftover finish in the dish no longer takes deformation from a fingernail you are good to go.

And with experience and knowing where to start (blank and material choice) you don't need to test cast to identify it's best uses. You already know.

"Bass rods" are merely a concentration of rods that are built for the techniques related to bass fishing. (I.E. Salmon rods can be trolling, slow jig, vert jig,...) The techniques and properties of rods used to perform the tasks that work best for anglers targeting the family of species can definitely catch other things. @#$%& I caught an old tin can with a deep diving crank this week.

2. Depends what camp you are in.
- Using spine finder/applying pressure and rolling; Do each piece individually and line up the "spines."
-Straightest axis; Find the straightest axis of each piece. Mark them and align them.
