Hi there. Thats my rod, so I guess I can answer this. The butt is built on the commonly available fighting butt hardware. I don't recall which brand I used (forecast, pac bay or American Tackle) but they all make them. The alloy butt cap is mounted on an eva base, then glued to the hardware. This piece of hardware screws into a piece that is inserted into the end of the blank. Because I use

I use Neal's technique. So far, I haven't had any problems with Rod Bond, in fact it is the most user friendly, trusted item on my rodbuilding table. I love the stuff.

I have an arsenal of 3wts.
7'9" Rainshadow (USA)- the rod I use most often, my "go-to" rod.
7'0" Honey Lamiglass 3pc - Very nice rod, loads well in close, a bit heavy when compared to graphite. Bridges the gap nicely between graphite and cane.
7'0" St.Croix - Very light and snappy blank. Decievingly delicate looking but has backbone for throwing more line or larg

Absolutely. I use single foot strippers on all my fly rods up to 5wt. Especially on a 2wt, a single would be very appropriate.

I finally received my order of Titan Guides and a Vetre grip. I am very impressed with both. The guides are light, very light, this was immediately apparent when I handled the ziploc baggie full of 9 spinning guides. The quiality on mine seemed excellent, can't wait to wrap them up.
The grip is also very impressive. I wasn't sure how it all worked based on the photos, but now that I have i

Hi Bart, Thanks! There is a guy on @#$%& selling them for $350, but the shipping to Canada is crazy. I'm hoping I can find one up here to cut out the shipping cost.

Hi all, sorry for the off topic post, but I have come to value the opinions of you folks more than most I have found on other forums.
I am interested in buying a Trout Unlimited Colorado pontoon boat. Firstly, I'm looking for a source to purchase one in Canada. Secondly, any opinions pro or con would be greatly appreciated. My buget is $400us.
Thanks in advance,

I got all my Teton reels from a guy on @#$%& (Mike Scott I think) that seemed to get alot of very unique reels from Teton, some 'one-offs' where Teton would play around with various engraving locations or styles, or special editions. I found these reels to be quite unique and unlike any available in stores. All were in the $95-125 range. I have one that is Gunsmoke coloured, with a beautiful e

I agree with Ted, I really like the Tetons for $100 +/-. I like the variety of finishes and details, some are plain black, others gusmoke with wood accents and yet others with decorative engraving. Functional and pretty.

Tom, I had a closer look at the pics of the Pflueger and it sure looks like a retooled Redington LA. I have the 3/4 LA and find it to be solid but overbuilt and heavy. Would you rate the Plueger ahead of your old favorite Loomis Adventure?
Sorry to get off topic. About the Ross reels, I'll have to try one, I think I've owned just about every other brand but Ross.

Sorry to hear about the goof up, although I enjoyed the entertainment value. Repeating some of the other suggestions, given that the scuffing was light and didn't penetrate the factory clearcoat through to the blank, there is a chance that you can use "rubbing compound" and bring it back to to a gloss. If it were me, I would use my 3 wheeled buffing set, and progressively buff it back

On my last trip from Toronto to Alberta's Bow river, I also used a PVC pipe with a regular fitting at one end and the screw out fitting at the other. I also lined the interior with foam carpet underpad, and put 3 layers of pad at each end. Then the rods were inside rod bags. The rods snugged in beautifully, with no room to move around. When I travelled, there was a separate counter where unu

"Many guys I know are now FedExing their rods to their intended fishing location "
Thats a gamble as well. I am now fighting with FedEx for an order from Mudhole that made it all the way from Orlando to Toronto, then simply disappeared before reaching my door. No attempted delivery, no idea where it went. They have no answers.
Luckily, Mudhole is an exceptional dealer and will

45. Re: red guides
Jay, so you are looking for Red ringed guides? Ceramic or Agatine (fake agate)?
If you are looking for red and green agatine ringed guides for fly rods, then Goldenwitch can likely help you out. In ceramic ringed guides, I've never seen red or green rings, only frames.

Hi all, just a note about me reply in this thread. I was just running out of my office and fired off the reply, and the exclamation mark might have come across as yelling, but I actually meant it as excitement because I've been waiting for some red guides for a long time. I've ordered some too.
I don't want Jay to think I was yelling at him. Sorry.

Rich, Glad to hear you are ok and back up and running. Hopefully you had the same warm weather we have had in southern ontario to make those nights without the furnace bearable.
I had sent you a message on Fri, I'll re-send it again tomorrow.

On a side note, make sure you spray the Krylon Fixative outside or in a VERY well vented room. It has a strong odor that lasts quite a while and can cause health problems if you inhale too much. My wife will not let that stuff in the house (I used it extensively for years in my Commercial art buisness)

Is it possible that you used lighter guides which in turn have less mass when flicking the rod, causing it to feel stiffer?

My only experience with them was with past years domestically made blanks. They were outstanding and an excellent value. My 7'6" 3wt is still my favorite trout rod. I look forward to trying one of the new ones to see how they stack up.

Hey Rich, I'm also waiting to hear from you from a Friday email.
I've been sending and receiving emails to all my clients without problems. Are you getting mine? They don't bounce back.

Fred, I think the rings that you describe as being filled were actually bleached. I had some like that, they looked incredible, nice and light coloured, I hand picked a bunch of nice rings. When I turned them, the light exterior quickly disappeared to reveal an average grade of cork with much darker colour. The bleaching seems to give them an overall attractive look until you sand them.

Or use a Venerri UP/DOWN slide seat. It works both ways and allows you to choose based on preference or balance.

All the more reason for you to glue up your own grips and get creative. With the experience you seem to have with wood and guitars, gluing up a grip would take you no time at all. Plus, pre-made grips look like pre-made

I feel your pain. I went through the exact same frustration a few years ago. I surveyed other rodbuilders, bought small amounts from various sources, couldn't believe some of the prices, and in the end, was also not impressed with the quality of even the very best rings (I buy rings not complete grips). Rings that look flawless would look average once turned and filled.

59. Rogue Blanks
Hi everyone,
I have a friend in the US that raves about Kistler rods. He and I have been speaking about me building him a rod. I suggested a St. Croix SCV blank (good reputation and easy access for me in Canada) for a nice light baitcaster for Bass, but he wants something like his Kistler, which rumor has it are made on Rogue blanks.
Does anyone here have experience with both Rogue and S
