It all depends on the technique he is using to catch them. There are lots of different ways to catch chinooks and a different rod for everyone. Then it depends on the waterway, river or stream or ocean or lake or fast or flow water boat or bank. He needs to give you a lot more info before you grab a blank off the shelf.

Lots of variations in cp grips. Some on the west coast here have rear grips as short as 4”. I’ve seen east coast grips with the reel all the way at the front to try and balance their long rods. I like something in the middle most of my rods have a 7” rear and 10” fore. An easy and versatile solution is a Tennessee handle where you can place the reel wherever you’d like. I recently picked up this blank too. I liked the specs and picked up with the last discount. I was thinking of trimming 2” off the butt and making it into a casting rod for jerkbaits. Based on your experience and the specs of this blank, do you think this would be a good option for it.
