It’s been over six weeks since I’ve received my shipping notification from AW. UPS tracking says that “package info received “ but has not updated any further since October 28th. When I inquired AW just sent me the tracking info again with nothing else. Anyone else have shipping issues with AW lately? Thanks

Reading the article, sounds like the over sleeve is the way to go in your situation. Depending on material outside reenforcing may or may not be necessary. Aluminum sounds like no graphite sounds like yes. I’d do a tight thread wrap the same as you’d do a wrap on the female ferule.

I have the same blank in the delta series that I’ve made into a float rod that has turned out better than I thought it would. One thing is it had way more power in the butt than the specs led me to believe. I liked it so much that I have the hm version on order and was going to build another one. The same thought crossed my mind as you and was thinking of adding 4-6” . I’ve lengthened blanks be

I looked for a blank suitable to build in to a proper nymph rod and came up with the same conclusions you have. I know there was talk not long ago of cts coming out with a new euro blank for our market but Herb would know most about that. I would think , unless you can check out the cts, would be to go with a production euro rod and build yourself the 5wt. There are some excellent blank options

Personally, I really like the soft touch grips. Lately I’ve been using American Tackle ccf reel seats with the 1k iinsert and the 1k hidden hood, which is a great match for the nfc grips.

For general use that’s not perfect for everything you mention , a 9’ 5wt fits the bill. Once you get more involved you may find a 6 -8wt more suitable for bass and a 3 or 4wt better for trout and panfish but that’s down the road. Personally for a first build to avoid confusion, I’d search out rod kits that include all the necessary components ready sized for your blank. Check the list to the l

I use a mgxtreme reel or a alserbaran mgl 30. Both those reels can cast super light weights. But I find it’s the rod that matters most. You need something with a super light tip to load with the light lures. I like to use a kistler reel ‘n’ feel which has a fibreglass tip and loads really nice but still has the strength further down the blank to play and land fish. It’s the 6’9” medium model ra

From what I get here is you want to ream a reel seat. That’s no problem just grab a reamer or file and go to it. I’ve often reed seats to fit, never an issue.

For $75 you can’t beat an X-ray blank. My favourites so far are the sj 736 and the sj733. The 736 I use for bottom contact baits up to 1/2oz. The 732, I trimmed a couple inches off the tip and use it for jerkbaits. I’ve had great service and they have always answered my queries promptly too.

I’m almost positive that I never cast with the rod tip in perfect alignment to the direction of cast. As in fly casting accuracy is determined by the path of the rod tip during the casting motion. If the plane is curved the line will tend to travel off plane and lose accuracy. A good caster will learn to use this in situations and can actually hook the cast to place the fly around obstructions.

I have one of the light power 6’ mhx shooter blanks , it works great for pinpoint casting of poppers out of the kayak. I imagine I could use it for other uses but it just casts and works the little topwaters so well.

I’ll vouch for the crazy Alberto knot too. I used the uni to uni then tried the fg knot and i now only use the Alberto. It has the smoothness to run through the guides, (I use 4.5 rings) , it has great strength, I’ve never had it break or unravel and it is easy to tie in all situations.

I just finished a neo build. In my opinion it’s is nearer a fast action vs the moderate as it’s listed. Seems to have plenty of power and I don’t think a 6xd or a 1.5oz Swimbait would not be any problem. I think up to 3oz should be fine and down to 3/8 seems doable. Just playing with it, seems about average for sensitivity but pretty good for a fibreglass blend. I could see myself throwing heavy

I learned to wrap rods by running the thread through a telephone book to create tension on the thread. Now I have a tension spring thingy I use and I like it. I find I a great convienience to be able to back up my wraps and not fiddle with anything and maintain that tension.

I ordered a few x-Ray blanks and carbon grips from the labour day sale. Can’t beat $75 for a great blank. Unfortunately the courier managed to damage two of the blanks. I emailed Nfc and within a week again the replacements were on my doorstep. Feels to me that they’ve upped their service these days and get things done fast without questions. Just built on the ds721 X-ray, it has a very soft

I have been using the full handles. The carbon material is so light that I don’t need to split the grip to save any weight.

I’d almost think that a euronymph blank would work well. But the only problem is getting good blanks. Right now there are not really any proper specific blanks offered besides the ones from the likes of sage, t&t, etc.. but check into the post on CTS releasing a new line

Herb, Will these be available to ship to Canada? I’d definitely be interested in the 10’6” #2. This time of year calls for small nymphs with small beads so a very soft tip is needed but still need that heavy butt to fight the fish. I’ve found that some of the longer 2 weights end up being so sloppy that the blank wobbles all over the place when casting and fishing. I’m not sure it’s possib but

Grabbed a couple of the lighter X-ray blanks and the neon mb 765. Has anyone built a neo 765 and what were your thoughts?

There are a few cp blanks made in the 4 piece configuration but they’d be pretty slow actioned for a casting rod. Northfork and rain shadow both have a 10’ 8 weight switch rod blank. That might be a consideration. If you could find one in a nine or ten that would be even better. Maybe look for a travel surf rod blank. I know there are a few out there, just look for the specs you need 1/4-1.5oz a

Aleks, I did email and discussed it with Ashlynn. I did tell her I’d keep the blanks. But if you are willing to correct this timely, maybe you could let her know. Thanks a bunch, Ross

I liked my first X-ray 736 I built so I purchased another one. But the blank diameters on the new one are way bigger and the blank definitely has more power to it. The butt is .632” vs the listed .490” and the tip is 2.18mm vs the listed 1.7mm. I did contact nfc and the reply was these are just “normal variations in the materials” and I could send it back but it “may not be quick” to receive my

For west coast float fishing for chinook with a baitcaster an11’ rod is about max length you’d want to use. You just lost power as it gets longer and it gets pretty tip heavy. Something like a sage gear I’m a ct3106 on the light end or a ct4110 on the more powerful end. You don’t need an extra sensitive blank for float fishing you just want to cast 1-3oz of lead and drive a 4/0 hook into the hard
