I responded based on the first post which was " How rod builders for champion distance casters determine optimum guide placement" but Phil is right , if you're talking about all the different types of fishing people do casting distance is generally very low on the list of importance.

The only real differences i have noticed from repeatedly test casting and also studying what those hulk like guys who throw for distance is : # 1 - Typically a longer distance than most regarding reel to stripper distance. #2 - Reduction guide trains spaced a bit longer than typical #3- Fewer running guides which are spaced 8 - 11 inches apart . My conclusion: The biggest determ

I asked about the proper KR setup recently as well and Norm posted the below: Depending your reel size and type of line you are using I would use either a 25H, 12H, 5.5M (or 6M) train or a 20H, 10H, 5.5M (or 6M) train. Followed by the runner size of your choice. If your rod is light power with a moderate action you might go with a 4 guide transition train. Check the Anglers Resource catalog

I only own the 8 footers in medium heavy in both the Avid Inshore and Tidemaster lines so i have no idea about the other models , the 8 foot Avid is A LOT more flexible from the midsection upwards to the tiptop than the identical rated Tidemaster . It's a fast action rod for sure which i strongly prefer. Did you figure out what you're going to do yet , did you talk to St.Croix ?

The SW versions are said to be a bit heavier so good call on your part Dave. I actually much prefer the Tidemaster Inshore rods to the Avid Inshore rods , Tidemasters are SC II and Avid Inshore's are SC III but when fishing both models side by side ( Tidemaster 8 foot medium heavy power fast action) and ( Avid 8 foot medium heavy power fast action) both rated( 1/2 -2 oz) the Avid is NOT as c

I like the Tidemaster green color blanks myself but thats just me , both models are indeed SC II and if the specs & power ratings are the same as you say they're probably pretty close , identical no but close. Best thing to do is call St. Croix directly , they can even transfer you to Jason the designer.

Depends what manufacturer , they're definitely not all the same and can vary a bit but generally between 45 and 55 mm , the Penn SSV 4500 is 49 mm . I don't have any reels in the 2500 size .

Roger , your comments about MHX blanks failing is the first time i have ever heard this , the overwhelming majority who have built on them have not had anything bad to say . The person who designs them is a former Lamiglas designer who knows exactly what he's doing . I have fished St.Croix and CTS the most and their blanks fit my style and what i prefer . I have found the RodGeeks blanks t

I was driven there and enjoyed it myself , i was able to scrape some money together and buy a Rodgeeks blank for $45.00 . I shook the hand of the brilliant Stephen Pratt of CTS and salivated at the rods displayed . I would of liked to purchase everything on the floor but thats not possible for me and i'm grateful i ended up with a blank and a thread burnishing tool , oh and a few stickers .

Thanks Norm , i wonder why Fuji would put together a set that doesn't match up well , you saved me from purchasing something that sounds like it won't be optimal , i appreciate the info . The blank is actually 9 feet moderate fast action and the reel will be a 4000 size .

I agree about their guide sets in the past but the KL-H guide sets are somewhat new so i was curious if the sizes sounded correct to people familiar with them thats all . Thanks for the response

Has anyone bought the guide complete sets and if so were they pretty accurate ? I am looking at the new Fuji KL-H sets for different length rods up to 8'6 feet . For the 8'6 length rod it comes with one 25 H, one 16 H , one 8M, one 5.5 L and a total of seven 5.5 M running guides . It seems there is no cost savings when buying the set instead of individually but just wondering if the sizes

Iv'e been extremely disappointed with a lot of the talk on some forums about high mod thin walled blanks falling out of favor with some manufacturers and the manufacturers changing them so they're thicker walled blanks but thinner in diameter. Thats totally unacceptable to me , i have never broken a thin walled high mod blank and strongly favor them over others . I wish people were more educ

Yeah , i liked the look of those myself but didn't bother digging deeper since the heights aren't listed , the Delta guides look similar as well .

I'm seeing people asking for titanium frames with Fazlite and Concept O rings on fishing boards these days which cracks me up since Fuji has taken the stance that Alconite is not high end enough to pair with titanium frames thus the discontinuation lol. They believe anybody that goes with titanium will most assuredly go with Sic or Torzite but they were very wrong in that regard . The cancell

You can find Tommy Farmer on You Tube if you're curious , i would just google distance casting with Tommy Farmer. My guess is he will mostly go over choosing the right type of rod , determining butt length for each individual caster and how to pick the best overall length for each individual caster and than talk about the different actions and how they relate to distance casting. He will d

The RG blanks do have virtually identical specs to many St. Croix blanks thats become obvious to me but what baffles me is there are huge price differences . If they really are so similar than the RG blanks are some of the best bargains to be found anywhere .

I see people saying it's easier to get clean edge , what exactly does that mean , how is it easier and would you say it's harder to get an edge by turning by hand ?
