Well, the two spinning rod builds went well. I purchased RX7's instead of the Immortals. I used the KR concept with Minima M #20-10-6 and F #5 runners wih TiCh tip tops on both. Did basic wraps with NCP thread colors emerald green (bit dark) and scarlet red (nice maroon). The MH spinning rod I scraped, refinished with a orange sharpie with latex poly urethane turned out a transparent brown clearl

Has anyone done a list or chart showing NCP thread colors and the colors they transition to when wet? I did see on one of the posts that scarlet becomes maroon. Did it, right on, looks great on a RS Rev blank! Just wondered. I too like the translucent effect on the wrap. Also I wondered what likers of the NCP thread use to blacken the filed area of a black framed guide foot. Sharpie, finger

As Norman recommended, I will use Minima M guides for the reduction and #5 runners and #5 tip for the drop shot since it's a medium. I'm going to put the microwave reduction set on the 6'2' ML I'm doing. I'll do the runners and tip as you recommend. Thanks for the advice. My buddies will be so jealous! Utmost has been a good find for me to buy from too!

I would consider the latex wipe-on a bit harder and less yellow than oil based Minwax polyurethane out of the can. I would however say that regular poly cut with 1/3 mineral spirits is even harder once cured. For furniture in a 72 degree temperature; wipe (most will absorb), wait 20 minutes, wipe again, wait 20 minutes, light sand with 220, remove dust with cheesecloth, repeat process 6 times. Th

Lynn, I'm using the same wipe finish I used on many shop made pieces of furniture. Minwax - Polycrylic.I just haven't cut it as I would normally for wiping finish on wood. Would like to post a photo or two.

I'd like to contribute my latest hack. I hand scraped an AG Vengance MH 7'0" spinning blank and plan to convert it to a deep diving rip bait rod. Action seemed about right. Regardless if this is a good iconversion or not I wanted to show off my colorizing of the scraped blank. Everyone has sharpies laying around. I recently colored some crankbait bodies that turned out great, somewhat tr

Norm, thanks for taking the time to reply. Wow, that's light weight. I like it, I already ordered Minimas for the DS blank and a 6'2" ML both in Revelation series. Funny you say refurbish, I scraped 6'6" ML rod I didn't like today and I'll put the Microwave set on that one. I also scraped a AG Vengance MH spinning rod I never used. I plan to convert it to a MH deep crankbait rod. Seems

Thanks Michael. Totally agree with a good tiptop. I have since been looking at wrapping Minima's using the NGC system. Is the choker guide the same as the running guides? Anyone have a guide recipe for a 6' 10" drop shot rod using a 1500 size reel? I don't want to buy a bunch of sizes I'll never use.

Thomas, Lynn, what Minimas? The 4 series in single or double foot?

Appreciate your comments guys. I guess another consideration to use what I have is use of a rod sock and playing well with casting rods when bundled in a tight locker. Forgive me if I was a bit abrupt, the Hawkeyes just got stomped by a just decent Florida offense in the Outback Bowl. I guess I should be used to it by now.

As I said, "do I dare use a Microwave set with Durolite rings (that I already have) for this use?" Don't really want to buy another set if these should work fine.

Thanks Lynn, good to know. When I used to fish with a slip bobber we left the tag ends over a 1/4" inch or longer on the bobber stop. The line wouldn't hang up on the guides during casts.

Thanks for your reply Roger. I saw on this board a few years back that someone had tried reversing the Aero reel seat. With that I removed a handle from a Veritas spinning rod and installed a handle from the butt end with a reversed Aero. I really enjoy the foregrip position for drop shotting or ned rigging. I've made this swap on most of my M spinning rods. Seems to save on my shoulder while

This is my first new post. I live near Cedar Rapids, IA. I've wrapped several rods. None over a $100 price point. I'd like to build a 6' 10" drop shot rod. Here's what I plan to use; an Immortal blank, a reversed Aero reel seat so fingers are forward the reel foot and cork split handle. My question is do I dare use a Microwave set with Durolite rings (that I already have) for this use? I wil
