Aaron,
Love the titanium but at $145 it might cost more than the blank. The U-22 has titanium hardware and any of several beautiful wood inserts for around $85. A better value for my money. I put a U-22 on one of Dan Crafts 10' FT 8wt blanks and it made very nice looking and corrosion resistant fly rod. Spent the rest of the money I didn't spend on the U-21 seat on a set of Fuji titanium gui

Hi Andy,
You are asking for a blank that is for 8 pound test line and throws 40 gram lures???? Eight pound test line is usually recommended for lures that weigh in the neighborhood of 3/8 to 1/2 ounces and lures that weigh 1and 1/3 ounces, or about 40 grams, usually use line weights closer to 20 pound test. Not trying to tell you what you want but it would sound like your asking for a light ro

Hi Mo,
Mudhole lists the LSG series guides under the heading of Fuji "concept" guides. I posted the weight for the titanium guides under your last post. Hope it helps.

Hi Mo,
Back to the question of weight of guides:
5mm Fuji .06-.07 grams
5.5mm Fuji .11-.12 grams
6mm Fuji .14-.15 grams
6mm titans .19 grams
1 gram = 15.432 grains
1 grain = 0.065 grams
It's really hard to accurately measure something so light in grams and that is why I listed a range. Hope this helps you.
Have fun on the project.

Hi Mo,
The unit of measure that I indicated was in grains and not grams so it would have to be converted. I have another scale that weighs in both and I will do that when I get home tonight. The scales I use are for gunpowder and are acurate to 1/10th of a grain, but as grams are a larger unit of measure the measurement will be less accurate. I'll have to see how many decimal points my scale

Hi Mo,
When you posted the question on 5.5mm guides the other day I weighed a 5mm guide and remember it was .5 of a grain heavier than Recoil size one SF guide. The total weight was about 1.4 or 1.5 grains per guide if I remember correctly. I'll have to double check that for you but I think that is what it was. For a point of reference it takes roughly 7,000 grains to make a pound. I am just f

Fuji also makes a 5mm guide with a titanium frame and a tip-top of the same size and material which works great on this small rod. I used TATSG guides for the first few larger guides and then 5's the rest of the way to the tip and the rod is still very light and responsive. Just perfect for 2# test line and 1/24-1/32oz lures. The only downside is the first TATSG 25mm guide cost more than the b

The blank I have is a 6'10" 5 pc Dan Craft 1wt and since I have a fetish for Titanium I used a TATSG 8 mm stripper and mostly 5 mm Fuji concept SiC titaniums the rest of the way up, with a Fuji titanium SiC tip top to top it off. Very nice guides with the 5 mm ones weighing in at 1.4 grains or about .5 grains more than the Recoil #1sf. They all are probably good choices but I try to use c

Hi Ken,
You could always take the plunge and build this rod yourself. Give Dan Craft a call or email him, his link is on the left. He is real easy to talk to and I'm sure he could either give you the info necessary to build the rod yourself or just build it for you. Either way he is a good place to start. After all, he does have the blank and all of the other necessary stuff.

Derek,
Don't you mean another junkie coming to RodBuilding.Org in an attempt to come to grips with their addiction. Sooo many blanks, so little time. And my Titanium fetish is getting worse too! I probably won't sleep the last weekend in February either because I can't go to Charlotte. Life is so unfair.

I thought the comments about Recoils being Titanium coated or corroding was incorrect so I went to REC's website and here is what they say:
REC introduces a revolutionary new material for fishing rod guides. RECOIL guides are made from a special nickel titanium alloy with unique physical properties which provide exciting new possibilities for fishing rod designers worldwide. Until now, fishin

James,
I bought a St. Croix SCiV 1 pc 6 foot spin blank that might be what you are interested in. It has a fairly fast action but is rated for an 1/8 th ounce lure which is, in my opinion anyway, on the heavy side of ultra-light. Stil it seems to handle the really small lures so you might consider it. Very nice blank regardless. I am building a 6' Rainforest UL blank but I would have to a

I got a fly grip of bamboo burl that was broken during shipment, cut it down and made a butt and fore grip for an ultra-light spin rod I am building. I put cork sealer on it and it turned much darker than regular cork does which made the grain stand out even more. I can agree with what Eric said about it creating a very nice looking effect.

Mudhole has them all. They have had to backorder some on occasion so if you are in a hurry a phone call might be a good idea.

You might want to look at Mudhole's new catalog. They list some SCIV and SCIII series spey blanks from St. Croix as well as some from Sage. They are all more expensive than the Forcast double handers from Batson though. I got one of the Forcast spey blanks from FishSticks4U a few months ago and it is just a super blank. It has a somewhat faster action than one of the Cascade Composit's speys

Batson lists some nice looking Blue Reel Seats on their website. Go to RainShadow/Forcast on the left then Components / Reel Seats / Fly (New) for pictures. I beleive Dan Craft, FishSticks4U, and Bigham Enterprises are all dealers for Batson.

I'm wondering what those that use titanium guides use to prep the guide feet. A Dremel tool with the pink wheel is kind of awkward to use, especially on the small guides, and it leaves rough marks on the feet. It was suggested by a person at a tool shop to use the green colored Dremel wheel and to use water but that still won't be any less awkward. In general, what type of grinder do you use t

Try FishSticks4u. I just ordered a Spey reel seat in aluminum and cork butt and fore grip for around $55 total from them. They are under Batson/Forcast products on their site. Paid more than that for a spey reel seat with wood insert from Mudhole and I didn't find any spey grips in their catalog. Struble U-26 seats are listed in Dan Craft's catalog in nickle silver but it will cost almost as

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure if I really have a casting style yet as fly fishing is still somewhat new to me and I've only finished a few rods so far and haven't had much of a chance to fish them or perfect my casting. The CCS site has some information on Forcast and Rainshadow blanks but nothing specific on the RX7+ & 8+. . Thanks Jeff for your reply. It sounds as if I might

I purchased two 4wt blanks from FishSticks4u during their recent sale. They both appear to be of superb quality but since I don't have anything to directly compare them to I wonder if anyone has built them and has had a chance to fish them and would like to share their feelings as to how they fish/act. They seem to be of a relatively small diameter and maybe less tip action than the Dan Craft
