Looking for some suggestions on a 7 ft blank for throwing 1 - 1.5 oz glide baits such as the Megabass I Slide 135, Jackall Ganterel Jr and Gan Craft 148 from shore. Not sure where to even start. Glide baits are new territory for me. Do I want glass, composite, graphite. . . Heavy powered crankbait blank, something like the Phenix Recon heavy or maybe X-11, inshore / light saltwater?

Wow, for me personally I think that mhx sj783 is way too powerful for those little 3/8 oz jerkbaits. I'd be afraid of over working the bait. The 782 would be a better fit imo. The 783 is a pretty stout blank. I've found the Mhx popping blanks pretty close to perfect for jerkbaits. Still has a fast tip, but loads up really nice. Keeps fish pinned. Not a big mhx fan, but the medium heavy high mod p

I don't think it's really a trend. A lot of people fish from the bank, relocating to different areas where packing 1 piece rods is a pain.

I'd really like to build a higher end, quality 2 piece stick for travel purposes. Anybody found any great 2 piece freshwater blanks? I've used 2 piece RX7 and Mhx, but want more of a premium blank. I know rodgeeks has a few in the carbon 2, and St Croix has some SCV. Not sure I'm ready to spend 200 bucks though. Is there just not enough demand for manufacturers to do this?

I felt even the previous blue Eternity was a nicer blank that Mhx high mod. It just felt more lively in my hands. I don't consider the Mhx high mod a top tier blank personally. Not dead by any means, but the Phenix Umbx, Point Blank, and Nfc IM I have offer better feel a feedback imo. I can only imagine the new Eternity being better than the previous, especially if Nfc is somehow involved which i

Thank you Norman. I just wanted to make sure the blank can comfortably handle a half ounce. I figured the top rating of 1/2 oz was on the low side. I've been told to trust the Point Blank Rda numbers more so than Ccs or lure ratings. I'll be ordering the 7 footer in hopes that 3/8 is rig right around the blanks sweet spot. Much appreciated

The 6'9 medium model has 440 grams of power and is rated up to 5/8 oz. The 7'0 medium model has 460 grams of power and is only rated up to 1/2 oz. Is the higher lure rating on the 6'9 model due to the Xtra fast taper, or are the ratings on the 7'0 model off and should be higher or at least the same as the 6'9 model?

I'm assuming you're after a 2 piece blank. I'd look at the Mhx P842-2 popping blank. Fast tip with a deep progressive bend under load so you don't pull any hooks during the fight. Most crankbait blanks that light designated moderate or moderate fast are noodles. This particular blank will load up really nice with those small baits , and the fast tip will come in handy should you decide to work so

Um yes. I'd prefer the hoods to not be painted though. Also would be somewhat concerned about the paint on the barrel holding up.

I agree with the Mhx SJ842 if you don't want to spend the whole bill. Very versatile blank. I would also recommend one of the Phenix M1 medium light blanks. Soft tip, good backbone, crisp and responsive.

There is no advantage to split grips imo. Overall balance of the build is far more important if you ask me. It's personal preference and has nothing to do with old school, G Loomis, etc. Split grips feel awkward to me unless the rear grip is large enough to accommodate my entire hand. I'm also less accurate with split grips, and accuracy is more important than grip material and design.

All my bass rods are built with a size 6 stripper onto all single foot size 4 runners. Works fine and never had a problem. Also keeps the weight down. I don't fish leaders so no connection knots. I'd jump up to size 5 runners in that case. You could step up to a size 7 stripper, but imo a size 10 will look huge and clumsy in front of those running guides while serving no real purpose.

Every blank manufacturer makes a good weightless plastics blank. How much money do you want to spend? What type of cover if any will you be fishing around? Braid or fluorocarbon? If sensitivity is important to you, there are blanks out there that will blow that Shimano out of the water. Some people prefer an extra fast action where the blank shuts off real quick like, others like a more progressi

If you're stripping the guides off the rod, why not just buy a new hood? They sell them separately and have a new titanium finish option as well as black and silver.

The blank doesn't know any difference. Finding the optimum blank for the task at hand is what you should focus on. Action, power, where and what you will be using it for is key. That's one of the primary reasons to take the custom route imo.

How much power do you want? The Phenix umbx ml casting blank may fit your needs. It has the numbers your after and will handle and load 1/8. I know the medium light has about 470 grams of power, so a full power less should put you around 370. These blanks are fast with tip angles around 65 and 66. I'd also look at the Point Blank 701mf. About the same power and tip speed as the umbx. They also ha

Ha, that's funny. I'm actually using an Xp844 right now for these baits. Nothing wrong with it. It actually handles these baits quite well. Just looking for something a touch faster with maybe an additional half power, and perhaps a little added sensitivity as a bonus.

The Eternity 2 is being revamped. It will loose the cobalt blue painted finish and now be more of a raw finish. This is just speculation on my part, but speaking with a rep I get the impression they MAY be produced in the Nfc factory. Expect the prices to go up. Should be available sometime late summer.

Phenix X crankbait blanks are pretty nice. Graphite blank with an S glass tip section. These blanks also feel more graphite than glass other than in the tip section.

What blank are you guys using for throwing 4-5 inch Keitechs and such? I fish them primarily on a quarter ounce swimbait jig head in open water for smallies. I want a blank that has enough power for solid hook sets, and a blank that is on the slower side of fast. Right now I'm looking at the 7 ft Phenix umbx ml, and Point Blank 7 ft medium. Both blanks are a little faster than I'd like. I've read

Hey folks. 1st timer to the forum. Tons of stellar information on this board. I like it! I'm needing a blank dedicated to throwing 4 and 5 inch Keitech paddle tails on quarter ounce swimbait jig heads. Rocky terrain open water for smallmouth up to 5 pounds. I've narrowed it down to the Nfc Im blanks above. Currently I'm using a rod built on a Rainshadow popping blank, Xp844. It does a fine jo
