Thanks everyone. I just tried Pac Bay GM Gray in stay true and it was not the match I had been told it was... Anyone know if ProWrap Silver Smoke is a good match as well? Saw some pictures and it looked to be pretty similar.

Has anyone out there found a thread color that matches an XST blank or a Batson titanium trim ring? I tried ghost grey and its close but not quite what I'm looking for. There are a few other colors from ProWrap I'm thinking might work but I'm wondering if anyone has a shortcut and could tell me what they've used rather than ordering 3 different thread colors. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

My only concern with minima guides is that I do not know how small I can go before running into problems with a bobber stop. I like the idea of micro guides to keep the tip light but since this will be a slip bobber setup I can't have them be too small.

Thank you for the insight guys. Looks to me like standard guides should work out fine. Any preferences on how to do the spiral wrap?

Alright so I am pretty knew to the whole rod building thing and would like to have some questions answered. I am currently building a big water float rod for Steelhead (11'6") and its going to be set up for a baitcaster. My main concern is that I want to make the guides as light as possible for balancing purposes without using titanium guides. I'll probably make it a spiral wrap to reduce th

The FG knot is what I would be using. I initially never considered anything smaller than 6's. I come from a steelhead background and I feel like I've never seen a rod with guides smaller than that. I'll obviously be using a low profile and was thinking I'd have 8 guides total for a spiral wrap. Starting off with sized 10, 8 and 7 all double foots to get me around the blank and then finish it off

No offense taken! But would you still be going that small of guides if you were to be casting frogs? I also may tie up a FC leader to the end of my braid at times, not sure how that effects guide sizing.

Okay perhaps you identified my problem, I will in fact be using it as a "pitching" stick. Guess I was not up to date on the lingo!

What would you say about guide size if I also wanted it to double as a frog rod?

Alright so I am going to be building an MHX FS904 as my next flipping rod and I have a couple questions that I would like some help with. First off, whats the general rear grip length people tend to give a flipping rod? I was thinking 11". Second, I think I am going to spiral wrap the blank because its a custom build so why not, I would like to try one out at least. If I go with the spiral w

Thank you everyone for all the replies. It seems to me like there is a great community behind this forum, lots of good advice. There are so many good options it seems hard to pick one at the moment. Still some research left to be done...

I thought the mudhole one looked like the better value, aside from the reamers. I like the dream reamer kit offered by Batson but I am not sure I could see myself utilizing all of them. I am obviously not sure how functional the razor wand is but I would imagine it will suffice for building a bass rod? I don't see myself building "a lot" of rods right off the bat, just one or two.

I have recently decided I am going to start building my own fishing rods and need a good kit to get me started. I am the kind of guy who would rather pay the extra money for a good kit so I can have quality tools as opposed to buying the Black Max combo of rod building kits. Here are a few kits that I have been looking at. Could anyone tell me which they think the better one is of the
