I am still very new at this and having serious issues getting a descent looking finish around my decals/bare blank and really messed up a nice rod i built!
I have been experimenting with a broken blank i received in shipping and trying to get a descent looking finish on just the bare blank and really struggling. I haven't had issues with my guide wraps and have felt very good about how they h

Does color preserver need to be applied on a dryer like epoxy?
My decal doesn't look bad it's the open area of the blank around the decals and open area below my wrap that looks awful. I'm letting it dry for a couple days and then try to put a second epoxy layer on it to see if I can help it.
Here is the wrap we put on this rod. Only my second wrap done. Hoping I can salvage the fini

I will try that. Does color preserver require the rod to be spinning in a dryer? I have a rod we built this weekend and it's got about a 5" wrap. That plus decals was a long stretch of epoxy and to be honest I did a terrible job applying the finish with a brush. Beautiful rod looks like junk to me now. Not sure what to do differently. I guess keep practicing.

36. Decals
Should I put epoxy over decals? I'm meaning like the sticker describing the rod blank and then a logo sticker? I have on a couple and not sure I liked it...

Crisis averted!!! It came right off with a just a little bit of heat and xacto knife! Very easy clean removal, cleaned up a little with some rubbing alcohol and actually already have the new wrap in place and it looks tons better!!! Thanks for the advice John! I knew it was easy just wasn't sure how much to do!

38. Removing a guide
I have a rod for a tough customer (my 11 yr old son) that the last running guide before the tip somehow got out of line and I didn't realize it! How can i take it off and redo it since i already put my finish on? Elementary question but i haven't experienced this yet!!! I am sure it would fish but we did some wrap work, trim and color coordinated this whole rig and I don't want to show anyone

Curious what guides others use on a mhx843 Max taper blank when using the pac bay minima guides? Are these the right guides to use on a heavy rod? 7' medium heavy blank, spinning

When you all say pacbay minimas, I see three different models in my mudhole magazine. Which ones are you using? I've just been using the standard hlgsf guide sets from mudhole on the three rods I have made. Seem OK but I feel like I'm missing the latest, greatest thing.

So far bill, after fishing with the two I've built, store bought rods (cheap light combos I have) feel like junk!

I finished this build and fished it tonight tossing a beetle spin. Some cosmetic flaws I learned lessons on but overall it turned out well. Obviously it will fish differently in a crappie application but it was fun to flip around. This one goes to a buddy so hoping he enjoys it!

This is my second build so still very new at this. I have read the guide placement information in the library. After finally getting some free time, i started working on this rod this evening. I used an abu garcia STX5 reel which is pretty light. If I use the math for the choker guide in that article, the spool is 32mm x 27=864mm from the front of the spool. That seems very very close to my

Any one specifically? I looked some last night and really didn't read anything that explained sizing guides.

48. Sizing guides
I am a beginner to rod building! My 10 year old and I have built one ultra light and have a 9' crappie rod to get started on. My question is how do I know how to size guides. I called mudhole for the nine foot but I'd like to know how to know myself! I am mostly going to build panfish and bass rods. Thanks in advance for any help!
