The u-40 permagloss first coat (and only coat) over the duplicolor worked great, put it on fast, do not go back and brush it or it will remove the paint after 3 or for seconds, just move quickkly with a soft brush and coat it good. This is 5 days old, no peeling solid finish The photo does not show it off well but it is shiny. The second picture is the first coat with createx paint, probabl

I saw the guide, too bad the photos are in black and white! I will try only using the two base colors. If you use two base colors, how many sacrifical threads should I put on the top layer? DB

Hey guys, I have seen some awesome tiger wraps but what is missing was the thread colors used. I started making some very small practice wraps. I plan on doing a pink tiger wrap for my wifes surf rod. The picture is the first base layer with varnish over it. The second is a top layer of black only. It came out like rainbow color? The base threads are Black Pink and White. I think for the

Pretty Cool man, email me and I will correspond with you because I am working on a practice tiger wrap, right now! The other two I did failed but this one is gonna be good. As for the squadron logo, THAT seems like it will be challenging, and you will have to Weave it in. Which to me seems problematic without a few pieces of equipment. Your email is hidden mine is not, send me and email and

Honestly Bill I am having a hard time understanding your last post but if you are offended you can email me directly. Like I said, I am new to this. The Duplicolor and U40 permagloss work very well, I just screwed up putting on a second coat of the U40 permagloss and hopefully others will avoid my mistake when they read this. I will most likely have to start another thread when it is all finished

Dennis I unhid my email. Apparently with permagloss, you can recoat either soon after the first, or you have to wait till it cures which is 5 days + otherwise the coat of permagloss most of the way into the curing stage will react with a fresh coat. I am not a chemist, but that is exactly what happened. The first coat was absolutely fine though. DB

I will definitely look into that Dennis. But the Duplicolor spray paint DID NOT react with the permagloss. The Second coat of permagloss, reacted with the FIRST coat of permagloss. So in my opinion Duplicolor is a fine choice of paint and does not react with u40 Permagloss. However, your suggestion seems very useful because I don't need a sprayer and can make any color I want. So I will defi

No offense intended, the problem with this forum is that people speak in broad terms like , Auto Clears, and can be thinned. No one is pointing to a specific brand, amounts, how to thin it, what to thin it with and without experience in using the category of items you mentioned, I have a hard time understanding it. I am new at this and the research I did find especially on this forum was of litt

Yah, I just got done sanding and repainting the original rod and I started my wifes surf rod too. Dupli Color is fantastic spray paint after using their primer in about 20 minutes im gonna go check it and touch it up then I will post pictures before adding the perma gloss later this week. This time I will put two coats on quickly.

What did not work, putting a second coat of U-40 on after 3 days. Pretty sure it just ruined the prior work and Now I am going to sand it down and possibly have to start over tomorrow hopefully the paint will be ok. SOOOOOO frustrated but this is all part of the learning curve so lets make sure you read this closely : DO NOT RECOAT WITH U-40 PERMAGLOSS AFTER 3 DAYS. Not sure if I need to

--Hey everyone, Kinda new at this, only have built, or rebuilt I should say, one single rod. I searched everywhere for what paint to use and what clear coat to use and there was not a clear answer so I decided to experiment and then post the results to the forum for any other newbie looking for the right answer. I read a lot of people using Krylon Fusion, which I could only find Krylon Maxx
