Could it be possible that the rod -- when the fish hit - was pulled down and hit the boat at that point - Thus causing a crushing impact ??

prep the area for the seat As the seat goes on make the last one first 1/4" tape Then one in the middle and final on the end Ends I put in about 1/4" in The glue will hold and with the space it will be glued to the blank 4 if you prefer It will hold WELL

NOW -- think of the weight you are adding to your rods ??? One NICE coat of light finish -- when set to sand Sand out ant faults -- Another thing coat will do -- A lot less weight It will perform a lot better - and I would think you will be a lot happier with it ??

Mark I re read your post - I would ask if your place is very hot - Like 80 - 90 - cool it off When a finish sets fast any bubbles will not have a chance to come to the surface And break ? And like you have seen are left under the finish I advise cooler temps So the finish stays wet longer ---- It will set up But staying wet longer will alow any air to come to the top and -- BE GONE -- A lighte

It is the reel Some reel makers make there reels with no TILT on the reel itself So what happens is the shaft just shoots straight off into space You can check buy placing the reel on a flat surface Hold a straight edge on the shaft and see if it is level with the feet -- If so I would not get it I like Shamano reels ?? As fare as I know they still have a tilt

Not to swim up stream - But i have been thinning Flex Coat UV for years -- BUT --- I thin with a lacquer thinner -- ( medium temperature ) -- thinner it will not evaporate as quickly and cuts the finish well Thinners come in three types - Fast - medium - and slow - The medium works well if your place is HOT 90 - cool it off to hot let the finish stay wet as long as it can - Mix well I use about

If you are using a 9 rpm turner it is that the speed will not hold the amount of finish you are putting on If you can not speed it up -- Put the finish on Get all the guides coated ---- Then stop the turner and with guides - LEFT or Right - let the finish drip of - Excess finish - Then give the rod a 180 turn several times buy hand - then turn it on again OR Put put on a LIGHT COAT so it d

I like to coat the base with either permagloss or a like product It is hard and wrapping over easier then epoxy finish 2 - 3 coats 20 min apart
