Inspired by Hiro Tanaka, I built and named this rod after my wife and best friend. Photo shows scarlett tartan at the exposed section of the split EVA grip.

When you do that, don't forget the guide feet also as they will show up under white or light colored thread.

Thank you Tom. My consolation is that such rods are never used for casting. Anthony Lee

Tom, Out here in Asia, many of our spin jigging rods are max 5'3" and we use very large reels (Shimano 20K or Daiwa 6500). We can't use the NGC nor the 27X. Guide sizes will normally be 40, 25, 16, 12, 12 and tip 12. Such rods are around the PE 8 to 10 range, jig weight around 500 gm, and are very parabolic. I can't think of any system to use except do the static test and place the guide

Look at Pac Bay's Model A6. I use that for most of my spinning rod and can accept size 4000 (Shimano) reels. Anthony Lee

You have to try it with and without CP also. NCP with CP is slightly lighter or brighter than without CP.

Are CG-1 corks natural and unbleached? I am very interested to know which sponsor here carries such corks. Most that are available are all bleached and faults covered.

Over here, we disregard the warranty and cropped every GF760L that we build, anywhere from 4" to 12" off the butt. It's a value for money blank that we can play around with, depending on its application. Seldom heard of any breaking anyway. Cheers, Anthony Lee

I do mine exactly as Jeff and Greg for years and never had to contend with using the sharp blade on thread. Try to lay the tie off loop earlier, 10 to 12 turns at least. Merry Christmas, Anthony Lee

I have built countless rods on this beautiful IMX blank. T-YSG 16, 8L T-LSG 4 all the way. Tip must be T-FST 5.5 ( 1.8). Butt handle: max 5" Fuji IPS or VSS 16 reel seat with no foregrip. Butt guide must be at least 20 to 24" away from reel. Shld be excellent for reels 1000 and smaller. Cheers, Anthony Lee

I once talked about custom rod building as "Romancing the Rod". Yes there are guys that use, caress and romance their custom fishing rods for their specific characters and the "one of its kinds" values. They even believe that such rods have"souls". There are others who believe that the fishing rod is just an efficient tool for competition, just like how the tennis pr

I appreciate the work put in by the MM team and have learnt from it. There is definitely a difference whether you fish for a living, for sports or just for pleasure. Asians mostly fish for pleasure and like me, have small hands and less overall power. For whatever reason we fish, the rod and reel package must also be comfortable in our hands, not only in weight and sentivity, but also image. I

Overall weight package, rod and reel, must be just as important. In Asia, we have used much lighter reels for a number of years, and further weight reduction from the rod can now be considered as opportunities to fine tune the package further. I like the statement that "Less is More" but to overdo that without due consideration to artistic values will be like buying a rod off the shelf.

Steve, Thank you for your explanation. So, far, all my simple spiral running guides are Fuji's T-LSG 6s. On a typical 6'6", 10-17 rod, I will normally use a Fuji T-LNSG 8 stripper, T-LSG 6 for bumper and 7 running guides all size 6. I have not experienced any casting problem. For my next rod, I will substitude all the running guides with 3.5 and will report here if there is any problem.

Steve Gardner, On simple spiral, you said. "1- On different occasions I have recommended when asked which types of spirals to use? That they stay away form the simple wrap while the simple wrap is a great set up, it is not the best choice to use with Micros " Can you enlighten us on what problem to expect with mircros on simple spiral? Thanks, Anthony Lee

Most board sponsors should carry these but since you are from Australia, you should check your local source as these are very common items. I source directly from Matagi as I am in Singapore.

You sure can get Daiwa's Saltiga Surf blanks here in Singapore. Over here, many of us visit Japan very often and most blanks, especially Daiwa's, can be purchased from many Japanese outlets especially in Osaka. But. like what Tom said, if you can get a better alternative, why go thru all this trouble. Cheers, Anthony Lee
