Thank you for the replies, I thought I had read somewhere that guides were not supposed to be wrapped over the female ferrule, obviously mistaken. Well try different ways to hold the guides on temporarily, biggest issue I have right know is getting them taped on and keeping them aligned. Practice, and more practice.
Thanks

I purchased a rod kit from mudhole to build my 1st rod, a couple of questons.
I'm taping down the guides, using the guide layout and the measurements that came with the kit, I end up with my 6th guide directly over the female end of the ferrele on the upper blank,I know it shouldn't go there, but should I move it closer to the tip, or down toward the butt end, which would move the guide onto the

This configuration does a better job of maintaining rod sensitivity while more smoothly tracking the rod’s natural bend and maximizing th

I've tried to go back and read as many of the older posts on guide placement as I can, along with reading "Rod Building Guide". I also went to anglers resource and read thru there articles on guide placement, rod stress, etc: along with using the software. I still have some questions.
1. More guides/fewer guides? I've seen posts and articles discussing how more guides affect the rod's

Thanks for the info and advice, I did unhide my email address. I'm looking to build a hand wrapper, so I've been looking thru the pictures that are availible, that's where my questions are coming from. One of the biggest question is about the overhead tension device and how that works, will probably use something along the lines of a tensioning spring on the spool, maybe add the overhead tension

Just a hello and an introduction, new to this forum and rod building in general. I'm retired US Army, spent most of my life in the mlitary and fishng when I could. I'm interested in learning how to, and making my own rods. I've done a search, found some answers, but I'm still going to ask some questions. I'm in the process of putting together some basic tools, and the big one being the wrapping b
