Joshua, do exactly as Norman suggests and switch the last two measurements. And with that kind of spacing between the third reduction guide and the choke guide, it definitely is a glitch. Hard to say what the glitch is tied to, reel size, line size, rod length, etc .... but it's definitely a glitch. Like Michael said, I go exactly by the numbers the KR GPS spits out, and looking at the paper I

Ryan, it's a shame that you can't go and actually check the blanks out in person. If you go with the RX10 ETES610MXF blank, I can guarantee one thing ........ you will absolutely love how sensitive the blank will be.

The Revelation series of blanks are nice blanks, but they pale in comparison to the Eternity RX10 blanks. If you want a rod you will use and have for a long time, build it on the RX10 Eternity. As for the Eternity drop shot blank you mention, assuming you are talking about the ETES610MXF blank. I have not built on that particular blank, but I have built on the RX9 version of that blank. The R

Chris, thanks for the additional response. Much appreciated. Prior to hitting the place order button, I took a closer look the pictures you provided and the picture of the seat on the Mud Hole web site and it was clear that it was probably the Bushido insert I was seeing. Thank you for clarifying that. As your pictures already showed a gap between a section of the reel seat's body, and the insert

Chris, thank you very much for the reply, and the pictures. Love seeing what it actually looks like on a rod, and even better, what it looks like installed down locking. I'll be ordering at least one, and possibly two. A couple more questions? Is that the Bushido finish insert they offer, or is that the actual rod blank I am seeing in the reel seat? My plans are to go with a 17, with a couple

I did a search on the site using the word "carp" and came up with a link to this thread . It has some links in it that may be of some help as far as blanks, reel seats, and guides. I've seen some people here at local lakes fishing for carp in the way they do in Europe. Definitely some interesting set ups they're using. And some specialized rods. Here in the states carp aren't as ....

Chris? On that rod you built using the G2 Apex reel seat ..... did you build it up locking, or down locking? I really like the looks of the Apex but I don't like up locking reel seats. It looks like it would be fine to install it down locking, but I'd like to hear your opinion.

Wouldn't the only time the OD range of pre-made grips would be a factor is if someone were using a Tennessee handle on their spinning rods? Speaking freshwater bass and panfish rods, here. Not big heavy boat rods n such.

I haven't tried NCP thread, but I have done test wraps using U 40 and Flex Coat CPs, and the thread doesn't have the same sheen as regular thread with just finish over it. Michael Ward, I am interested to hear about your results with the Gen 4 Vivid color preserver that you had a thread about not all that long ago. In the pictures you posted it appears that there was a nice sheen to the threa

He mentioned that he didn't use CP on the test wraps. The CP he used can't be the problem, if he didn't use it. Maybe trying CP is the answer? I'd be curious if wetting a wrap with alcohol, as you would to get an idea of thread color once finish is applied, would show the same type of streaking? I'm guessing it probably wouldn't. But if it did, then that would point to the problem being with

I don't know if Fuji offers the Ultra Poly in a color fast version. If not, then you need to use color preserver to keep the color as close as possible to the color of the thread on the spool. I know that on Mud Hole's web site, the product details for Ultra Poly read ......" Use with color preserver, to maintain more of its original color"

Les, and this is just based on my personal experience and feelings ..... but I would not use 12# fluorocarbon line as the main line on spinning gear unless you were using at least a 4000 or larger reel. Spool diameter plays a huge factor in using fluorocarbon line on spinning gear. For me, 4000 series reel is too big for a bass outfit. Even with Tatsu, which is the only fluorocarbon line I use o

LOL Lynn, I love me some cork too !!! But only the grips I build. LOL Kidding ..... kinda lol Thanks for the compliment about this XO skeleton grip rod. I've enjoyed the process actually. The way I have the blank tied into the grip wasn't hard to do, and is super solid. It really is going to look sweet when I'm done. The wraps are going to go along with the colors of the Vanford reel. Les, yep .... my thread barrel is cut down to 1.125" Here is a picture of the finished product. I am definitely leaving the bling nut on. That nut is .250" wide. The nut / hood combination I have using is 1" wide, and it goes down a little past the length of the thread barrel. The hood / lock nut you have is probably wider than the one I am have. I too have a MB 725 C6O2

Hey there Norman, thank you for the kind words about this thread, and glad it could give you a better grasp of what to expect if you decide to pick one or two of them up. And really, as nice as they are, I would suggest you do. Heck, despite what I said in an earlier post in this thread, I may pick up another one as well. Doing the mod to enhance the blank's connection to the grip, if one decides

Les, I will respond more later, but go to the very post in this thread, and click on the link at the end of the first paragraph. There are links to pictures looking down the thread barrel. You will see exactly why I say there is only 1 3/4" of glueable area. Check back later. Oven buzzer is going off and if I don't get out there, the smoke alarm may be next LOL

Alex, thanks for the response and the kind words about the build. It's going to be a super sweet rod, and I really love the looks of the grip. Even more so, (my opinion of course) after I blinged it up a bit. And I agree with you when you mention ferrules working in instances that see a very heavy load. My thing is, some of the things you said in the thread introducing the grips, lead me to b

John, if Megabass makes a rod with the type of blank to grip connection you describe, then you dang sure know it works and works well. They make quality products. And you're right, if the Megabass set up works with that small of a blank / grip interface, then surely the XO Skeleton set up that you epoxy in, is going to work just as well, or better. But ..... just as with the XO Skeleton spi

Les, thank you for responding, I appreciate it. To answer your questions ......... I made the extension the length I did for both of the reasons you mentioned, to keep the extension concentric with the grip and blank, and for strength. I figured 2.5" into each piece would be more than sufficient. As the butt of the blank will be in contact with the inside of the grip as well, I probably cou

Adding a picture of the lock nut area finished off. I took .375" more off the length of the thread barrel because I didn't want any threads visible once the reel was installed. Both the red backing nut and locking nut / hood combination will pass over the EVA nub to allow putting on, and taking off of the reel. I also weighed a few things. The weight of the grip with everything on i

As Les alluded to, the reason for the darker color where the tunnels are is because the thread isn't directly against the blank. That means the back ground is darker, and that darkness is showing through the translucency of the thread. Lighter color threads show it more readily, but even with darker color threads, you can and will have a color shift based on the background color you're wrappin

John, I've only seen one ferruled handle on an old factory Shimano rod I used to own. I didn't even know it was ferruled until I went to tear the rod down and rebuild it. The butt of the rod blank went into the reel seat pretty much the entire length of the reel seat, which was between 4 and 5 inches long. Also, they have telescoping rods that work more or less like a ferrule, but the overlap of

Figured I'd add a couple of pictures showing how I handled adding a trim ring to add some color to the grip. The OD of the very butt end of the grip in its stock form, is 1.074" . I like using Alps TRB trim rings between the butt cap and rear grip on my rods that I use a butt cap on, to add a little color and I think a little more refined look. The OD of the Alps TRB is 1.040" so in ord

I have a couple of threads where I talk about things that I think are a problem with the spinning version of the XO skeleton grip. Here is a link to a thread where I post some pictures and describe what i think the problems with the grip are. If you're considering purchasing and using one of these grips, you might want to take a look at that thread and then decide on your own, whether or not what

I just looked at the web site of a major on line tackle retailer. Every Shimano, every Daiwa, every G Loomis, every Megabass, every Fenwick, and practically every St Croix casting rod they offer uses exposed blank reel seats on their casting rods. Some of these rods retail for as little as $69.99 so it's not like this on line retailer only carry the manufacturer's top of the line rods. They

It's not ridiculous at all. You're looking for a rod with particular attributes and of a particular length, and there isn't always a blank available in stock form, that will fit the bill. You have the blanks in hand, so it would make it easy to judge whether or not what you're proposing to do, will result in what your customer is looking for.

I just weighed the tube that goes inside the woven graphite insert used on a Forecast GS16SKC skeleton spinning reel seat. The tube is 4" long, with an OD of 15.46 mm and an ID of 13.34 mm. The tube alone weighs 7.5 grams. So if you need to use an insert, your 9.74 gram reel seat is now a 17.24 gram reel seat. Add the weight of any arbors that may be needed inside the tube and the weight go

So basically, the cut out in the reel seat isn't to allow contact with your fingers and the blank, it's to allow contact between your fingers and an insert. And if you don't use an insert, you have to figure out a way to seal the gap between the blank and the reel seat. Even at twice the weight, I'll stick with an Alps MVT casting seat. And Aleks ..... are the OD of these seats like a tube
