I like to use these to hold the guides. You can get them at other places as well. They are dental bands

I really like either of these blanks from Hydra for jerkbaits. Link to their site is on the left. Jerkbait/Topwater Bass Fishing: Jerkbait, Topwater BT8015JT: 6 – 12# Line | 3/16 – 3/8 oz Lure BT8025JT: 8 – 14# Line | 1/4-1/2 oz Lure

I learned to use a left hand casting reel when I started musky fishing with large in-line spinner baits. They pull really hard, fatigue was an issue. So I set up 2 rods one left and one right, this really helped with fatigue. One thing that helped me was to hold the left handed reel and crank it while I watched TV. I just cranked the reel and after a few weeks had built up the required muscle

If you are using the reamer with grit glued to the tube they are prone to loosing bits of grit and lodging them in the foam core. Not much you can do about other than blow it out as best you can or try a different type of reamer. The dream reamer works good but you can also use a round file.

Too much tension on the thread. Use smaller pull thread, scrap thread will work tied in a loop. No need to burnish so hard.

I get one a half size smaller than the blank measurement where I plan to install the seat, then ream the seat to fit the exact location. The perfect location of the reel seat is key to building a great custom rod.

I did something similar. I used a piece of wire used to make spinner baits. The wire is about 12" i made a loop on one end and a long z bend on the other end. I drilled a hole in the carrage between the spool holders and inserted the z bend. I run the thread to the loop on the tentioner, down to the eye on the carrage, then to the rod. Imprved the performance when power wrapping and allo

I had most of the same questions you are asking. I have spent countless hours reading the historical post on this and several other sites. That information is important and gives you many different persectives on how to build a rod. I feel that none of these perspectives are "right or wrong". The best thing I did was to purchase low cost components and build the rod using the ideas

45 and been building for 2 years. I have completed about 15 rods and a few rebuilds of factory rods. As some said at first I felt like an assembler, using kit builds. Recently, I started forming my own grips and coming up with my own guide layouts. I also started making custom winding checks. This had made the hobby very enjoyable.

Thanks to all. The rod is balanced very neutral, the butt is 10.5" to the reel seat.

Looking for a blank that has similar action as the Quantum Tour KVD Cranking Rods. They are a composite blank E-Glass and carbon blend. This rod feels more like carbon rod than a soft glass rod. Any good suggestions?

All great ideas on how to make your own but again I think the question is more directed at all the trim pieces are available in blue or red but only some of the trim pieces are available in green. Seems strange.
