Robert, What is the size of the blank ? 3 3/4 inches penetration is common for heavy shore jigging rods (9' or 10' long) but not for smaller blanks. For example on St Croix 8'6", 1oz, blanks it is more like 2 inches penetration, at most.

I use the Albright special knot, it holds very well under extreme shore jigging conditions. Google it, plenty of info on the net.

I am planning to build a light spinning rod for fishing squid jigs from shore - a very popular technique in my area. Squid jigs are normally between 10g and 21g, and I want 8' to 8'6" length and two pieces. It has to be fast action with tip diameter not more than 4.5. Any idea which blank can work our well ?

I have one ready and building another one. It works great and produces very sensitive rods having a great range. You can use the GPS software or the table edge method if you have the reel at your disposal. Test cast using different positions for the stripper guide and see what works best. Running guides are placed using Static Load Theory as normal. The core of the KR concept is rapid choking (i.

Best method I found is to push sideways the epoxy using a dental floss or a piece of braided line held between two pieces of wood, but the small dental flosses work wonders! You can buy a bag having 20 or 30 of them.

I had some epoxy (the one used for gluing components) paste run and drying up on Eva foam grip. What is the best way to clean it up ? Is it ok to finely sand the Eva ?

I've used U40 cork seal recently and I'm very happy with the results. It does help in cork maintenance by adding a protective layer, and it does not hinder the appearance of the cork - on the other hand it enhances the look in my opinion.

Phil, I live in Malta middle of the Mediterranean Sea and the intention is to use this rod close to shore mostly with lures and small jigs. Targets are usually amberjacks, barras, little tunnies and bonitos. Usually fish under 8kg. For larger fish we use trolling or heavy jigging rods. Herb, my email is now visible. Thanks.

Hi, I'm looking for a saltwater inshore blank which needs to be 2 piece around 7 feet in length and can handle lures / jigs up to 3 or 4 ounces. I found a couple of MHX options but they are too heavy, as well as a Rainshadow (the SW967F) which seems to fit the bill. Any experience with this blank, or any other suggestions pls ? Thanks in anticipation!

Yes I heard about the Salo area Lauri :) From my very limited experience of your fishing, I think Mag Tapers are great for the large zanders you mention as you have a very strong butt with a very sensitive tip, which is always good to have for drop shotting. Look for mag taper types as Tom suggested - all the major manufacturers should have them marked as such.

Finally I have some photos of my first rod building project to share. It is a light shore spinning rod built on StCroix SCIII blank with Fuji VSS reel seat, Fuji Titanium Alconite guides and marine grade aluminium winding checks. Built using KR Concept approach, and thanks to many contributors in this forum who were a massive help to me.

Hi Lauri. I imagine you are from Finland ? Where do you fish ? I've been on a fishing trip on holiday to the Tamissari archipelago in Southern Finland last month!... great place for perch, pike and zander. Re drop shot blank for zander I think you can find a lot from the suppliers on the left ... there are quite a lot to choose from MHX, StCroix, RainShadow and others. The blanks are normally

Jim, is it acceptable to mix RV guides as reduction guides in a KR concept followed by the normal KB and KT guides ? I would like reduction guides to be double foot and the remaining guides single foot.

Thanks. What I still don't get from KR Concept literature is whether the stripper should be related to spool diameter or not. In my case I will be using up to 15lb braid with Daiwa 3000 reels. Now according to the AW guide on the concept, the suggested reduction train for Micro Rods up to 15 lb Braid is 16H, 8H and 5.5M. However with the spool diameter rule of thumb, the 3000 Daiwa reel should po

I was going to ask this question personally to Jim but thought it could serve to the other users as well so I'm posting it on the forum. As you know, an important variable in the GPS (btw well done for an excellent improvement to the software) is the reel size. Can someone confirm whether these are based on Daiwa 'type' or Shimano 'type' spinning reels ? As you know a Daiwa 3000 is larger than a

Guys, just thinking. Is it possible to use some sort of tiny stencils. So you tape the stencils to the blank to get a firm working position and just fill in. Not sure what ink / pen can be used in this case though.

It depends on epoxy being used and the temperature of the place. I think you should always leave the tray / cup so you can check when it is no longer too tacky ... I don't think slightly tacky is a problem. In my case with Prokote and 75 degrees, 8 hours or so is usually a perfect time.
