It's a Fuji skeleton seat Tom. Here's a link to their product page: Are the threads pretty standard across Fuji's range? If so, I could probably just use a standard reel seat nut, correct? Loking at Fuji's website, it looks like they make that reel seat in a conventional no-foregrip locking nut: The question is whether I could getd just the nut or if I'd have to purchase an entire reel seat ass

So, after doing a little reading and talking to a few anglers whose opinions and feedback I've come to trust, it seems as if I may have set myself up for some potential heartbreak by purchasing a pair of Aetos casting rods. Now I will say that they're super light and even the 7'6" MH balances a lot better than I expected it to, even with a light reel on it. I realy like how both the 7'6"

That's good. Judging by the seat slipping, I'm not sure how uniform an application of epoxy I'll find under there. Will any 5 minute, 2 part epoxy be sufficient?

Thanks for the responses guys. I just tried to move the reel seat up to expose the reel seat section of the blank but the hook keeper is in the way (I don't like it anyways, it's like the ones on a Fenwick Aetos, I'd like a Kistler-type hook keeper). The rod isn't exactly a beauy queen so I'm just going to remove the hook keeper and see how far I can slide the reel seat up along the blank. When I

Morning all. I was out fishing from shore yesterday and whie casting one of my baitcasters, I noticed the reel seat was slipping on the blank. I can twist it 360* around the blank and slide it up towards the first guide. This isn't an expensive rod nor does it hold significant sentimental value, making it a perfect candidate for a repair attempt by a new guy ;-) I have a seccond rod identical to

Rolly: That's a great idea! I spoke with a club builder and he said he definitely has what I need. Bill: I'll email her a few links ;-) John: Also a good idea, thanks for that!

Bill: They're on my Christmas wish list, let's hope my little wifey picked up on my hints, aka text messages with the titles and authors I'm looking for. Roger: Thanks, that sounds like something I can pull off. I hadn't thought of checking the local thrift stores, might find a pawn shop or two as well. Russ: I absolutely agree. When I get to the point of making my own rods they will defini

That would be a great option, it looks like a really slick system and would take a fair amount of the hand work out of the job. They are a little overkill for what I'm looking to do though, and a little out of my budget at this point. Who knows though, maybe Santa is paying attention... ;) Thanks!

Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it! Bill: I have both, but they're mostly cork. Tom: I knew I read something about this before, I just couldn't put my finger on where or when! Turns out I had that article/file on my laptop already :-) Thank you! Roger, Lou and Bill: What I want to do is essentially extend the blank rather than making a whole new grip. I don't have a wo

So, after fishing this season, I'm starting to think that I'd like a longer butt section on a few of my rods. What is the best way to go about this? I'm not sure how much longer I would want them to be but I would guess I would want them to be between 2 and 4 inches longer. Any ideas on where to start (aside from knowing how much longer and which rods...)...? I have no idea how this would be done

Randolph, it turns out that two of the rods I have are down-locking. Lucky me ;-)

A simple spiral is exactly what its name hints at: simple. You set up your first guide, then rotate the rest of the 180* at the same or similar spacing as you normally would, then add a guide at 90* to the first guide on the handle side of your rod, halfway between the first guide (on top of the blank) and the second guide (on the bottom of the blank). This guide merely serves to keep the line of

It doesn't affect roll off or twist from what I understand. What it does do is protect the guides by having them on the handle side so that when you put the rod down, it's not resting on the guides that are sticking out to one side of the blank. Make sense...?

Bill, I know what you mean! It took me twenty minutes to write that last post! Randolph, that makes sense. I think one of the rods I was considering using is down-locking though. I'll have to check to be sure though. Thanks!

Gary, that's exactly what I was thinking of doing. I will definitely have to swap out the first 2 guides at least, depending on their height from the blank. I have a handful of #8's and #4's so the 8's will replace the first two guides and I'll use the 4 as a bumper. Thanks guys!

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I really appreciate your input! A little more input into what I'll be using it for is as follows: I'll be throwing anything and everything under 5/16 oz on this. I will very likely spool the reel with 20# Sufix and use different leaders depending on the actual lure being used. I was thinking of a 7' rod but I'm not against something longer like what Russell sugge

Has anyone ever taken a spinning rod and replaced the first few guides to make it a casting rod? I'm asking because I'm looking for an inexpensive way to get into finesse casting (I already have a Revo LT coming as a Christmas present :big grin: ) but I am in need of a rod that will throw at least down to 1/8 oz lures, if not lighter should be able to actually cast anything that light. Aside from

From my limited understanding and practical abilities in rod building, this is what I was taking from Russel's comment: fewer guides because you don't have to keep the line off the top side of the blank, it's not there anymore. As for the using fewer different sized guides, I understand that to mean that since the butt guide and transition guide(s) handle line flow and control from the reel to th

Tom and Jim, thank you for your answers, I really appreciate it! There is such a wealth of knowledge on here, I am really happy that I found this site. Jim, it was a 7' rod so it being a little shorter isn't a big deal. I really like the way it casts now versus before it broke, talk about a silver lining, eh?!

I hope you guys don't mind me jumping in here, but I have a kinda related question. The tip to a spinning rod broke about 4 inches from the tip, taking the next guide with it. I put a new tip top on it and have been fishing it since, it's fishing fine. My question is: since the tip broke, how does the action change in relation to that break? It's a medium power, moderate action blank to begin wit

So I got around to bending a guide earlier this week. I was able to get it down about 3 mm from where it was originally. Overall, I'm happy with how it functionally turned out, however, I wish I was able to bend the side that has the two arms of the frame a little more cleanly. Good news is that I didn't crack the insert! This was a guide that I removed from a rod that I'm modifying into a bumper

I'll be sure to use my smart hands when I get around to bending the feet. I'll try to remember to take some before and after pictures too. Roger: Most definitely! However, this is more an exercise to see if I can do it as well as seeing if the finished product is actually usable. Ideally, I would have thought far enough ahead and ordered the desired guides. But, you know how knee-jerk projects
