Thanks for the video Norm. That helped a ton. My only issue with the KR is passing a braid to fluoro knot (12-17lb) Will the 4.5 have any issues doing that? I have 4's on a spiral wrapped flipping stick and it demolishes casting if there is a knot.

Just curious on the benefit of MicroWave with a caring rod. I have them on a spinning rod and love it but I do not see the same potential benefit. huge fan of it on my spinning rod I'm just not sure how it helps a casting rod.

Hey all, Been building for awhile but just now getting back into the thick of things. Starting up two crank bait/chatterbait rods here in a couple days and wanting to get some input on guide trains. Gonna be using this blank and have always used Fuji but not for any reason. My main issue is minimum size because I have had several rods I spiral wrapped with micros that had trouble passing

I was finishing the but wrap of a rod and I really messed it up. Never had this happen so was wondering how to fix it. It has tiny bubbles, has low spots, and has bits of it that look like the thread had frayed a bit. Rod Dancer two part with only one coat. What is the best way of fixing this without having to cut it off? I am thinking sanding but do not want to mess it up worse.

So I have been working on a rod for a friend's wife and he wants a decorative wrap on it. Doesn't care what it is as long as it looks good and matches colors. So far I have failed a tiger wrap and only done one other rod and it was a scrap one and the crosswraps were lopsided to say the least. I have been building for about 5 years and have never gotten around to decorative wraps.

I have never broken a rod I have made on a fish. Trees, windows, doors, ceiling fans, and tailgates are an entirely different story...

It is pricey and I do not always use them on my personal builds but if I want a ceramic guide I am going to be using Fujis. I have had too many issues with guide inserts popping out of other manufacturers guides. I put Titanium SiC micros on my last build and I really am pleased.

I absolutely love Pac Bay Minima guides. I either follow standard micro guide layouts or use concept. Something I have done recently is kind of do a hybrid of them. It is easier to just look at a guide set and copy the sizes and number of guides. I use the spacing from Mudhole for micro guides and Angler's Resource like Joe mentioned.

Thanks. I had done it before but I ended up switching because I thought the sound meant it was hurting the guides. Definitely going back now though

Can I throw braid on my spiral wrapped rod? One is SiC which I would assume would be fine and the other is the PacBay Minimas. I just do not know how well the transition and stripper guides would do since the line rubs mainly just that one edge.

Figured out what happened: 1. I was feeling the cup not actual guides. I must have had some residue not mixed well on the edges. The rod set up fine, just a little slow. 2. It was 65 degrees which is a littler cooler than normal. Everything ended up all right. I really appreciate all of your help.

Thanks for the input. I decided to wait. I am having an issue with my finish though. I put it on about 26 hours ago. It is hard but still slightly tacky . I have not had this happen to any of my other ones. Any ideas on what caused this? Thanks

I would strip them. The guide feet probably will wiggle around under it and ruin the new coat of finish once you put stress on it for a while. It is easier to just rewrap than take a chance on losing a customer.

This normally is tack free in 8-10 hours.

I was wondering how long this takes to set up before being fishable. I know it sets up pretty quick and is hard in 8 or 9 hours but is it fishable in 12? Thanks in advance, Ben

I like the hot glue idea. I have tried the rubber band thing and did not have much luck. Thanks for the help so far!

I have been having trouble getting micro guide wraps started. On the past few builds I have started above the guide and wrapped down then slid the guide under a thread and continued the rest of the foot or use cable ties to hold it in place and wrapped like normal. Only problem was the cable ties scratched the blank. Also wrapping in front of the guide stiffened the tip section and did not look v

Had that happen once on a 7lb smallmouth. Only thing is I got lucky on the rod and it did not break. Nice fish though!

The winding checks I use are the tapered vinyl ones from Mudhole that sit flush with a size 16 seat and the one from Jann's that sits flush with a size 17. Might want to check them out

Personally I like the PacBay minimas. I have used the alconite before and had no issues at all but I ended up going back to the minimas. For the price, weight, and durability I love them. I am guessing you are building a bass rod so I would at least take a look at a micro guide system. There are also specific winding checks made to go flush with your real seat.

I have spiral wrapped all of my casting rods since the first time I tried. It does not hurt casting distance or accuracy and makes a noticeable difference when reeling in a fish. I just layout the guides and flip all but the first two or three around the blank. Then I just use those guides I did not rotate to bring the line around. Just place them so that the line will not hit the blank. After th

I have built a couple rods that are spiraled and loved them. For guide placement I would lay the guides out and move the first two or three stripper guides around the blank until the line would not touch the blank and then finish laying out guides as usual. Is this way alright to do or are there better ways? I don't have any other spiral wrapped rods made by others to compare it to so I don't kno
