32. tip top gauge
I bought a tip top gauge from mudhole (fuji ) and wondered what the #s represent?
I measured 2 rod tips with my micrometers,
.077" or 1.99mm the gauge reads 5.5
the other was .088" or 2.3mm this one the gauge reads 6
What do the 5.5-6 represent, 64ths of an inch?
TIA
Paul

One of my old Hardy rods has a reel seat that consisted of an aluminium half hood that was mounted to the rod grip with two screws and the top half was an eccentric ring that you simply slid over the reel foot and turned slightly to lock into place.
I really liked it and want to use one on a rod I am building for centerpin steelhead float fishing but have not been able to find them, I have heard

Jimmy,
Are those weights just for floating lines?
With sinking lines having varying densities it would seem there is no way to just weigh them to determine line weight?
Thanks

Hi guys just wondered if anyone knows of/has any of this discontinued teal color thread or a close color from one of the other thread makers?
I have tried the online color chart from pro-wrap but nothing looks right.
Thanks

Over the years I have learned its just not worth it and just have everything shipped to my mailing address in WA
I have no issues paying taxes and duties (the only thing our gov collects) that USPS/Canada post collects.
There are no duties on any goods coming into Canada that are made in the USA or Mexico as per our FTA and rarely did I get charged duties.
My issue is with the private co

To me its the same analogy as, I can go to the store and buy a fish cheaper than what it costs me to buy the equipment to catch one........
I build rods for the same reason I fish, I enjoy it.
From a purely economic point of view I guess you can rationalize its not worth it but I put value into the satisfaction I get out of building and doing things I like.
As the others have said I dont think

1-4lb line wt is the key, pretty sure a 8wt fly blank will not be slow enough to go that light.
I have a hard time with 3 lb tippet on my 4wt fly rod.
My personal experience (fishing these rods not building them) for steelhead if you are going to get away with that light of line the rod needs to be long and slow, noodle.
Not sure if anyone makes one rated that low, most are 2-6 lb.

I have only used it once to refinish an old Hardy mooching rod however the results were fabulous.
I used a tire shine applicator sponge but after seeing the wifes makeup sponges, I they would likely work better.
2 things I found,
I needed to squish the sponge into a dish of Permagloss and slowly let it expand and soak up the Permagloss in order to get enough on the sponge to do the blank in o

Guys, one of my local flows requires the use of a long noodle rod with a spinning reel and very light leaders for steelhead.
I currently use a production Fenwick World class I bought in the 80s that is 11' long and rated 2-6lb, it has been absolutely perfect and landed literally100s of fish but sadly its not the greatest of shape anymore.
I have toyed with the thought of re-building it but thou

Guys, first off I would like to offer seasons greetings to everyone.
My question is will the treaded hoods from Fuji and AT interchange?
I dont have either that I can touch and feel so I was wondering if someone that had both could try for me and see if they both use the same thread pitch?
I want to use one of the AT Aero comfort spinning seats but they dont seem to make a hood like the Fuj

I agree with Ron, though not much of a rod builder yet....I have many years experience steelhead fishing low/slow/clear water with 2# test line.
Only way I can occasionally be successful ( rivers are full of obstacles like branches and boulders) is with a very long noodle rod.
I use an old 11' Fenwick world class.

Guys I was wondering other than experience how do you determine what size/style guides do you chose for your build?
I know its seems like a general ?? but the more I read from my searches the more confused I get.........
How would I choose the guides I need for a rod without inventorying a complete assortment guides to tape on and try?
What do the numbers represent, the size of the hole in the
