Hi Jim
Thrilled to hear that you're adding colors. I love this thread! My wish list would include a couple shades of "olive green", a really dark blue, and a really dark green.

32. Re: thread fuji
I've been using the Fuji Ultra for several months now. Absolutely love it! Only complaint is color selection. Need some darker shades of the popular colors (blues, reds, greens, etc). Otherwise, this thread is the best I've ever experienced. Zero flaws. A joy to use!

Just a follow-up on how this new colour was received by my customers. They loved it! It became apparent to me that having the thread not totally disappear into the blank colour might just be a good thing. If there's one thing I've learned in this biz, keep an open mind. So from my end, all is good. I have a thread that is consistent, of amazing quality, easy to work with, and produces a colour th

I'll take some photos in the morning under natural light. I won't post them here - mainly because I don't know how!! I'll e-mail them to you and maybe you can post them if you see fit. I'm sure there might be some interested folks who would like to see this. I compared the following:
1) Gudebrod A245 vs Fuji Ultra A008 on a dark blue blank.
2) Gudebrod A5896 vs Fuji Ultra A003 on a dar

Hi Jim.
No, I actually thought that maybe something was amiss at first as well. I checked 4 different colours with similar results. I have all colours in both "NOCP" and "ULTRA" in stock so comparing is quite easy. Don't get me wrong, it definitely darkens - just not as much as nylon. I could send you "before and after" pics comparing Gudebrod A245 to Fuji Ultra A

I have now had the chance to apply finish to this thread. My initial exuberance with this product has been somewhat tempered. I can't say enough about how "clean" this thread is - no issues at all with imperfections. It is an absolute pleasure to work with. But,...... If anyone (like myself) is looking for a thread that is "non NCP' and will darken to a translucent deep colour, you

I just finished wrapping a rod with Fuji's new thread. This was my first try with this product. All I can say is - WOW! They nailed it! Like a lot of you, I have been searching for a replacement for Gudebrod. Found lots that came close but all seemed to have their issues. This Fuji thread, in my opinion, is better than Gudebrod. It lays down perfect, it's super clean to cut, it has zero "fuz

Try packing the ferrule in ice for about 30 minutes. Usually works for me.

Hi Carol
Spencer is correct about Sage still making blanks for myself (Brian not Bob). I did not, however, get CT490's made. But the good news is, I do have one left. If you contact the store Spencer listed above, they can help you out. Thanks.

I'm in British Columbia and I purchase mine at Home Depot. I just had a look at the can and it says "Tremclad by Rustoleum Brands Canada". I assume, as Terry mentioned, that it is known by Rustoleum in the States.

Hi Terry,
Because I'm doing this so often, I was getting frustrated with the more "traditional" methods and how time consuming they can be. Stirring, thinning, testing, sourcing, etc..... So I set out to test many products with the following in mind:
1) Must provide a quality, consistent job.
2) Must be easy to use - minimal prep.
3) Must be quick to dry - able to apply finish w

Hi Chuck,
I'll tell you straight up that what I'm about to suggest is not the norm. However, I build several hundred rods per year (rod building is my only business) and I write names as well as serial #'s on most. I have attended seminars at the Expo on writing on rods and I have found that my method works a lot better. Forget the Testors stuff. Way too much hassle getting it to flow just right

Hi Jim
I build several hundred of these rods each year. The most popular handle configuration that I offer is 8" plus butt cap for the rear grip and 10" for the fore grip. I also build most of my rods with a downlocking seat. This configuration assumes that the angler will be using a classic single action "mooching" reel.

Hi Steve
The thread color used on the SP's was actually more blue than green. I have a small spool of it that I use for repairs. I can give you the color number but unfortunately I'm unsure of the manufacturer. Maybe someone else will recognize the code. The number I have is A10654. I'm almost positive that it is not Gudebrod. Hope this helps.

Randolph, I've got to be honest with you. I'm not really sure what your point is. You stated that "The blanks however are not available to the general rod building community." With a few clicks of your mouse, you can buy one. I have to admit to being a bit confused by this. Is it because they are only in a narrow geographical area right now? Or is it because Sage has never really embrac

Hi Randolph. I can fully understand how you would think that. However, I can tell you right now that anyone can purchase any of these 14 models in finished rod or blank at about a dozen Sage dealers in British Columbia. No special order. No fuss. They're in inventory. Sage makes them for me once a year and I distribute them. As my business grows, I will look to expand beyond BC's borders. For now

Actually, not entirely correct. Sage does still make salmon
