I put it on late yesterday afternoon. Thought I got all the air bubbles out from under it, but discovered a big one last night. I poked it with a needle and then tried to stick it down and rubbed off a bit of it. Would denatured alcohol work?

662. Help removing decal
I screwed up a water slide decal and need to remove it. What's the best way to get it off. At least I didn't put an finish over it yet.
Thanks

I bought a motor from Edmund Scientific, cost about $12, I think and turns at either 6 or 8 rpm, forget exactly. The motor was built to turn those goofy balls with little mirrors on them. I mounted it on an oak stand and it has served me well.

The last two times I've posted a reply I've received this error message
"You have an error in your SQL syntax near '167' at line 1: DELETE FROM phorum_user_newflags WHERE user_id=12 AND forum_id=2LIMIT 167"
The reply still posts, but this fairly annoying. Anyone haveing similar trouble or have any ideas how to fix this if it's on my end.
Thanks

667. Re: Fly Seat size
Mike,
The only thing that really counts is the ID of the insert, as long as it's bigger than the OD of the blank you'll be fine. As screwy as the numbering is, you can use anything with a "3" or a "5" in the model number. The higher numbers are really for saltwater and spey rods. I personally prefer the U3 style to the A5.
Have fun.

You mention a "sharp" angle where the thread passes over the edge of the foot. The guide feet need to be ground (beveled) to a sharp point on a shallow angle so there's a smooth transition from rod blank to guide foot. It sounds like that's the problem. Multiple coats of CP should not be a problem.

669. Re: Weaving Jig??
Add my name to that list also. I haven't tried weaving yet, but think I would like to try it.
Thanks.

For me it would depend on what the rest of the guides were. If the other guides, except the stripper, were wire I'd use a wire loop tip top. On a rod that light, if I was using ceramics, I wouldn't use a 7mm, a 6mm is more than adequate. To me, it doesn't make any sense to use a tip top that's larger than the adjacent guides, looks goofy and doesn't accomplish anything as far as I can tell.

What kind of guides are you using? Wire snake guides, single foot wire or single foot ceramics?

Thanks for the input. I did end up adding another guide, before you posted Tom.

I just posted a picture of a Pac Bay Tradition 7'9" 3 weight I'm building. This is my second try at static placement, gave up on the first one. My question is, based on the photo, are those guides too far apart? All the others look fine to me. Most of the books call for 8 guides on a 7'6" and 9 guides on an 8', so this rod could use either. I currently have 8 on it.
Thanks for t

Are the GE "Reveal" bulbs available at places like Home Depot or Lowe's?

You can go to their website. They should have all the info you need.

Look at the Forecast blanks. I've built five fly rods from 3 weight to 7 weight. I'd call them a moderate action. The 7;9" 3 weight was a really nice rod. Pac Bay makes one (Tradition series) the same size and weight that I'm building now that seems a bit faster. Neither blank will cost you an arm and a leg.

But if you use single foot guides you never have to worry about that.

I've built one 7'9" 3 weight with single foot wire guides and the usual style stripper. I'm in the process of building a second one now and will again use single foot wire guides but this time I'm using a size 10 single foot ceramic fly guide as the stripper. I would have used ceramics all the way but nobody makes a ceramic tip top in a size 3.5 tube. IS ANYBODY LISTENING???? Single foot

Snake guides and single foot wire guides of a given size are basically the same. The differences aren't really worth bothering about. Ceramics is an entirely different game, but they're great.
Bill Batson is right, their catalog has a wealth of information in it. Nobody else tells you how tall the guides are let alone how long the foot is, but I just noticed they don't give the ID for snakes.

I just got mine in Montana today. Looks great, even if I didn't win.

683. Re: guide sizing
I decide based on the tip top loop size. It doesn't make much sense to use guides with a smaller ID than the tip top, plus it looks pretty goofy, to me at least. I use a size 10 stripper for 3 & 4 weights, a 12 for 5 & 6 and a 16 for 7 weights. I've never built a rod heavier than that, but can't imagine using a stripper larger than 16. I try to get to the smallest guide size within 3

684. Stabalized wood
In some of the catalogues that list reel seat inserts, some of the inserts are listed as "stabalized" and some are not. What is stabalized wood and what would happen if I made my own reel seat from non-stabalized wood?

685. Re: New format
Tom,
I'm confused about your comment about adding shading. Every other entry on the board is shaded on my computer, it's very light but it's there and how light it is depends on the angle of my laptop screen.
