Count this bald headed Yankee to the list of afficionados of Andy's improved burnt and patterned cork rings. For me this cork was the best new product in the entire National Rodbuilding Convention. Andy, I hope you remember us little guys when your cork catches on with the big manufacturers. I think this is going to be your "oil well", my Texas friend.

Tom; I have had no difficluty using the CCS test on a Loomis 1266S surf spinning rod to determine the ERN as well as the AA. What part of the CCS seems inapproprate for heavier blanks or rods?

423. Re: Fisher Graphite
Mark,
It seems the pennies minted in 1996 and thereafter are different in weight from those of earlier years. It is vital that pennies' weight be uniform for the CC test. This also explains the need for clean pennies as any dirt or oxidation could ruin the test results. Common Cents and common sense. I am just passing along what I learned. All credit belongs to Dr. Hanniman.

I have a Kingwood trimmed grip and seat on a green Allstar Elite. Looks very nice but I think the Burled Rosewood will look even prettier. The grip is quite a bit smaller than those on the Allstar Austin factory rods. Personally I wish the AT grips were larger. They are very handsome and well made, though and will add class to any blank.

426. Re: White Underwraps
I just painted a section of a black blank with white Testor's Enamel and wrapping it in white NCP size A. The finish is LS Supreme and the result is excellent. For the actual rod I plan to use Nylon A in White and expect equally bright results over the paint. I p;lan to use Gudebrod 811 on the nylon and then LS Supreme. It's the first time I tried LS Supreme and the results are very nice indeed.

Rich,
Like many others I had great difficulty with bubbles in epoxy in my early efforts. I chose to employ an Motorized Epoxy Finish Mixer as described in RodMaker Vol. 6 Issue 4. If you do a search on this shite you will likely find many references for this great tool. There are many ways to build one or adapt a ready made drying unit. By immmersing a steel ball in a proper sized receptacle

Jim,
The Glossary section above is a wonderful resource with brief and clear defintions of most of the terms that apply to rod building. Just another great part of this web site.

When I had trouble logging in with a new email address I changed my name from David to Dave and the Forum accepted my registration. This might be the way to go.

Hi Sammy,
Life is full of surprises. I just read that one of the Met pitchers who wants a "patriotic" rod has been traded to the Florida Marlins. I hope I can still contact him but perhaps I counted my chickens before they hatched. I credit his year's National Convention for boosting my confidence level. I wish I had watched more of the demonstrations; especially Randy Papart's Marbliz

Thanks Billy,
I forget to mention that they both want a patriotic theme for their fishing rods. One wants a spinning rod and the other a baitcaster. I plan to urge a spiral wrap for the casting rod. The new issue of RodMaker is coming right on time for a spiral project. I would never have reached this point without this great site and RodMaker Magazine. Thanks to all who contribute and especial

432. From Jets to Mets
I am pleased to join the club of Jet Mini Lathe owners. My Jet 1014 arrived ahead of schedule in perfect working order. There are a bunch of small areas where paint has chipped off but nothing that I can't touch up. I have not been this excited over a new "toy" in a very long time. For me this marks crossing the point of no return. I am nbow definitely in this craft for the long hau

I second the motion!!! Just a few days ago I had a similar experience. I called Andy for the first time requesting info on Titan Guides. What was expected to be a brief call turned into a rambling and very pleasant conversation. I feel like I made a real friend. For me relationships are the key to good business and Andy Sneddon typifies the kind of guy who makes it a breeze. There are many wond

434. Re: Matte Finish
Mick,
It was probably something similar to the Krylon Spray Fixatif. The particles create a waterproof, solid and strong plastic coating. It's like Krylon Crystal Clear but in a dull (Matte ) finish.

Run a test. I wrap without CP and the thgreads darken and become translucent but they definitely retain colors.

Wonder if (after carefully masking off the guides and blank) a coat or two of Krylon Spray Fixatif (which is matte) would hold up for the long haul. I'm going to test that and see how it lasts
