I learned how to build rods and wrap from a few of Arties vids...I actually liked the homemade good ole boy quality.
I was not expecting a hollywood movie-just relative info -and it's there in abundance!
As for flag wraps....Artie makes sure to show his copy of and, suggests finding one for yourself of -

I use two piece surf graphite blanks exclusivly (I live in NYC and All rods need to fit in the elevator)!
I sling 8'n bait with them all the time....NO PROBLEMS!
I use the Lamiglas GSB surf series (My favorite is a GSB1362MH rated 6-16).
I highly recommend any blank from this series BUT.......They are gonna cost you.
Actually-I have found that "GOOD" two piece surf blanks- cost mu

Well Here is my 2 cents.....
I recently got a spool of Gudebrode Garnet and found it to be "QUITE FUZZY" !
NOT my tension device (don't have one)- NOT my fingers- my fingers are smooth sooooo
I believe there ARE a number of bad spools of Gudbrode Garnet out there right now!
I've NEVER had the problem with any other colour thread.
I sometimes work with a colour forcasting (for clo

Ordered a sheet of the "New" waterslide decals from Decal Connection the other day.
I received them two days later (wow fast)-looking just as I had asked for!
Was a little worried about using them as, I hadn't done this sort of thing since the 60's
as a kid.
Man was I suprised at how easy it was!! All I did was put down a nice layer of flex coat lite,
let it dry, followed the inst

I've done it with great success.
I first wrapped gudebrod pale gold metallic size A thread,
then overwrapped with gudebrode scarlet red size D.
I used no colour preserver on anything and, only applied my flexcoat
after all wraps were complete.
The look is quite stunning, and very easy to achieve!
Using silver under blue is fantastic as well.

I have a Lami Surf King and for the price it's quite nice.
It will cast 4-5 oz quite a long way with ease.
The guides will handle braided lines just fine.
The only drawbacks I see are:
The cork grips are applied ( in china i think), a little shody but give you no problems.
The handle is a little short for my tastes.
Still a good stick ;^) !

After asking about stripping a rod that had been in a fire, I felt confidant enough to start.
I had been warned that the rod could have been compromised ,due to heat high enough to
melt and buble the thread epoxy. Since the guy had been using it for a while it seemed safe enough to assume
it was fine.
I got all the finish off the butt end (Pain but NICE!), and was cutting off the guides on th

Miton, the fire also happened long ago and, the rod has seen heavy use
for a number of years since it happened. I know this fisherman and he
really whips his weight and bait out there....rod seems to be fine. I believe he was lucky!!
Thank you for letting me know however I WILL pass this info along.

I just got a confirmation on what the rod I 'm working on is:
"Kwik Stix classic 2"- it's supposed to be made out of a graphite composite.
It's very thin walled and flexes like He!!

74. restoring a rod
I've been given the task of restoring a very old rod. The man loves it so much he wants to keep
the original guides, grips, seat, and butt etc.. He justs wants the blank refinished (any way I want to) because...it was in a fire.
There does not appear to be any damage from the fire other than all the epoxy scorched, bubbled,
and a bit melted. I've managed to easily remove all the guides, thread a

75. Re: lami blank
I called mudhole and talked to a very nice person-Lyne.
She was very helpful.....I found out the lure weight is 1-4 oz and,
after talking to Josh at Lamiglas (again very helpful) found out the rod is
made of Fiberglass. He told me they made two versions and the way to tell them apart is:
If the tip end is grey and the butt end is gloss black , its a composite of fiberglass and graphite.

76. lami blank
I recently took advantage of Mudholes Lami closeout sale....
One of the blanks I got was a Lami LS-6909-B01 Surf-9' 1 piece 50lb.
I cant find any info on this blank?
Does anyone know what it's made of (it's jet black), or what the lure weight is?
Thanks again!!
(p.s. mudhole was great- blanks were at my door in a day)!

Wow-What a memmory you got there Cliff!
No, Mike is not my brother......even though we do share the same last name!
Mike -like Clif stated, I recently built a Lami GSB1362MH using All Fuji SIC guides.
I can't imagine why you would need a ring size so big for the tip?
My stick casts weight & bait up to 16oz with nooo problem.
Here are the guide #'s I used.....all sic-

A method for flowers that might work:
Pour borax powder in a shoebox and embed
the item to be dried in the center, cover and put in a warm dry place for
3 to 4 weeks.
I tried it with plants and it worked great!

Warm the bottles up good before mixing. The high build (at least for me), seems to want
to retain those small fizzy bubbles -even AFTER flaming- a problem I never had with the
lite. I found you can still put hi build on as thin as you want and, if you do give the bottles
a good warming, might not even notice the differance.

82. Flocked grip
Saw Tom's Excellant flocked grip photos and it got me wondering.....
If I was building a fat meat slinging surf stick, could i flock the blank itself
instead of using grip tape? To further show my ignorance of the subject,
can you flock over a pre exisiting cork tape grip?
Thanks!
