I have a question that's been haunting me for some time, lol. I know the builders of a few years ago could use drafting tape or some other methed to design decorative butt wraps, but how did they figure the spacing for the layout threads? I never saw anything about how to figure out the spacing in any Dale Clemon's books, or anywhere else for that matter except for VisualWrap, and Billy V's book

Thanks Joe, base on that the 1oz. spool is a better deal. Comes out to .0275 for Prowrap compared to .0144 per yard for Gudebrod. Thanks again for your help.

I'm getting ready to build a saltwater rod, and starting to make a list of all of the components i'll need. I plan on using NCP size "D" threads for both the underwrap and guide wraps. I noticed Prowrap has size D 100 yards for $2.75 and Gudebrod has size D 1oz. for $6.50 . I was wondering if anyone knows how many yards are on the 1oz. spool. To me that seems very high, but can't say fo

The guide wrap i mentioned is by Mike Joyce. I thought it was in the guide wraps photo section on here, but it's on Mikes own profile photos. I'm no good at transferring pics to here, so i won't be able to show you. If i can figure out how to do that, i will and then maybe someone call help. Many thanks just the same, it stupid when it comes to computers. Hopefully i'll be back later with a pic.

I'm seeing several guide wraps here in the photo section that are different then anything i've seen. Besides wrapping around the rod, they're also wrapping up and down the rod. Does anyone know what they call this, and how is it done? Is there a site for doing this type of wrap. Would like to try, but can't figure out just how it's done. Thanks for any help, Jack

I say somewhere how to change the colors of a guide wrap to several colors as you wrap. My problem is i can't seem to find it again. Does anyone know where this tutorial might be? It explains how to drop one color and do another, then drop that one and change again. Hope someone can help me out on this one, Thanks Jack

On my next build, i'm planning on using EVA grips but have one question. I see videos on how to install them, and how you need to use the right size. None of these tell you how or where to measure to get the right size ID. Since they come in 5 different sizes, how do you choose the right one? Any help would be great. Thanks, Jack

I'm going to attempt my first marbling on a rod. My question is do i have to put a primer on the rod first than the white, or can i just put the white on?

I recently finished a rod where i used a light brown thread and gold trim bands. Everything turned out great, but with one problem. After wrapping the guides, the light brown looked great. It wasn't until after i put the finish on it that it darkened, and has a kind of wet look to it. I used an NCR thread so i don't know what happened. If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be of great

First i just want to say i hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. My question is simple. I want to make my own custom spinning reel seat and was wondering if anyone knows of and web sites of suppliers for all the necessary parts as in skeleton seats and wood or any other type of inserts. Yes Michael i'v'e heard that before and i'm guilty of that. I think that my only choice is to do like you and Bill said and just refinish the rod. Thanks Michael and Bill for your help.

I'm looking to change the guides on my rod and add an extra one. I removed the guides and all of the threads without any problems. The one problem i now have is a slight hazing of finish is left on the rod where the guides were. Does anyone know of a way to remove the traces of finish? I don't want to use heat as it may comprise the rod, and i tried denatured alcohol which really didn't seem to d

I'm building a freshwater rod for a friend of mine. It'll be a Batson Rainshadow 7' XSB-842 blank. I know the number of guides, and spacing is not a problem. The question i have is, is there any way to determine the size of the guides i'll be to use without buying the whole set which is quite costly? There are ways to figure the number and spacing of the guides, but i don't see anything to

Boy have i got a good one this time.lol. A friend of mine has an old rod that he'd like me to replace the old guides with new, and change the thread wrap colors. I told him that's not a problem. But then he asked if i could turn the reel seat around. Right now he has a locking down reel seat, and would like it turned around for a locking up seat. I told him i'm not sure about that. That's my que

I recently completed a rod, and now have an issue. After a long and hard look at the wraps, i've decided i don't like the looks and would like to re-wrap them. Is it possible to remove them for replacement, and if so what would be the procedure since i already have the finish on them. I'm hoping this can be done. Thanks much for any help.

57. Rod set
I'm having a dispute with another builder friend of mine. I told him several years ago that i read if you leave a rod leaning against the wall for too long or hanging from butt to tip with a sag, that after while it would set with the curve to it that you couldn't get out. He said he never heard of such a thing. Can anyone time me who's right? Is this true with rods from years ago and now the ne

I see that BD Ehler has two sites showing " Introduction to cross wraps" and "Multiple thread wraps" Rather than prints these out since there are several pages in each, i was wondering if anyone know if he has a book out on these subjects that i can purchase? I think that would be easier and give me a permanent source of info. Any help or advice would be great, thanks Jack
