I have several, throw frogs, spinner baits, jerk baits and other light baits. Very seldom backlashes on me even in stiff winds. Most of the rods I use them on are spiral wrapped.

I was very disappointed the one time I used those. 12-18 months, they got hard and cracked. Doesn't affect performance, just looks bad.

I've built several of those. I like the balance and feel of 10.5" to rear edge of reel seat.

MudHole confirms my orders by email. I usually know before an order is shipped if something is back ordered. They have helped me many times in the past find a replacement for the item back ordered. MudHole is my go to supplier! I wish they had a warehouse in California!

I was catching fish up until Thanksgiving this year. I like late summer/early fall though; usually can get a top water or punching bite. Flipping is also good then. There is so much area and it 's tidal so you can usually find fish willing to bite!

To answer John's question, we use 65# braid with 1-2 oz weight, when punching thru hyacynth, which can grow a foot or more above the water. The braid is to combat the abrasion of the plants, not the fish. I have broken 65# braid on a hook set while punching. Punching is a great way to catch some good fish on the California Delta, but it takes stout line!

If I could afford them, all my rods would be St Croix SCV. For me, they are a challenge finding the right thread colors though. I also like Phenix and MHX high mod.

I really like my 5C72MHM-B 7'2" . It has become my "go to" cranking rod. I put an Abu Revo on it and it casts forever! I feel whatever the bait touches: grass, weeds, rocks. I think the MM will be good. You can't go wrong with the 5's, I've built 3 for me and 2 for a friend.

What Bob said- I have ordered from Mud hole several times. Tell them where you want the checks and seat, they will send the right one.

I agree with Hal. Minimum of 7' and moderate action. When I started kayak fishing I was using fast action rods and lost a LOT of frog fish. I don't use anything shorter than 7' on my kayak and most are medium/moderate action.

I fish for Largemouth off of a Hobie Revolution. 6'6" can be a bit of a stretch, and with all the stuff on board, it can get interesting... 7' is my choice.
