I had just started using Wild River this summer, but recieved an email a couple months ago that they were no longer selling Stcroix. So I am looking also. I kind of like to be able to deal with just a few different suppliers so I can get to know who I am purchasing from.

Im not sure if it was on this site or somewhere else but I once saw someone use a hole saw and drill some cedar rings out of some bark and glue them up into a handle. (I believe it was cedar) Does anyone know how well these hold up compared to cork? I know they sure looked good. Im just concerned about the life expectancy.

I have not built that model but can tell you I was very sceptical when I heard comparible to Gloomis. I recently ordered one of these blanks and WOW! Was I surprised. For the money I dont think these blanks can be beat. In fact I have seen more expensive blanks that I like less than these. Mudhole did real good here in my opinion. I dont think you will be disappointed.

I am real interested to see what comes of this. I am another one who has been real close to ordering this lately because of everything good I have heard about it. I have some personal rods to build in the next couple months for my son and I when I can squeeze them in between customers. I may give it a try on them first.

Since we are on the subject of safety, its also amazing how many flamable liquids and materials are laying around on our work benches. Keep an eye on these as your lighting up that alchohol torch. I now have a fire extinguisher next to my bench. have not had to use it because my mishaps have been small, but its there.

Just my opinion, but I would say its time to toss it aside for a day or two and get out on on the lake, river, or water you want to fish. Sometimes you just need to clear the mind a bit and remember this is supposed to be fun for us. Works for me. Your not messing up anything we have not all done at one time or another.

I would venture a guess thats a pretty generic cost for pretty simple wraps. I bet the price can go up just like ours when you call to order and get details.

Most of my 2 piece rods have been to overseas customers who want to avoid drastic shipping charges and pack rods for portability. For these 2 limited areas I have found a good enough selection of available blanks. But each region will have their own needs. If I was to try and target a local customer base I would be selling primarily 2 piece rods. So I can sympathise with the people who need them

Nothing is going to be ideal for that situation. You are going to have to make sacrifices somewhere. You are trying to cover to large of a gap. There is no magic rod out there. Billy is correct. You need to have more than one rod and adjust your fishing tactics to the species you are fishing for. Sure they all inhabit the same waters and you will occasionally catch one species while targeting ano

Thanks for the advice guys, the Stcrois are pretty much out of his price range, the mud hole blanks are a bit under budget for what I want to do for a custom build for a customer. I will give swampland a try and may end up painting if I strike out there.

Hi guys. Im looking for a blank and I thought that Forecast/Rain shadow had it but I was mistaken. The color is very important for this particular customer since its a birthday present for his wife. It needs to be a blue blank. Spinning/Casting blank. Medium action, 6 foot long, 3/16-3/8oz lure wt, 8-15lb line rating IM6 graphite. We are trying to match a Falcon FG-416 rod which is what she curre

This is another one of them things that will be argued forever. But my thought is are we not building rods that are supposed to out preform factory rods? If we do something one way just because thats the way the factory does it. Next thing you know we have factory rods with pretty decorations on them. I always spine my rods. This means that they are not always on the straightest axis. If its real

He is going to bring in both rods to me on thursday. I told him I wanted to get some advice before we made any drastic decisions and he was all for that. What Tom said makes sense to me, but I dont like it lol. I am afraid by going with larger guides we are going to lose some distance on casting which was a huge concern of his when we decided to go this way. But we ma have to compromise somewhere

Hello everyone, This is my first post here all though I have read a ton over the last couple years. As with most things a lot can be answered by searching. However I just finished a build and have a small complaint from a customer and dont know what to do. I built a Spiral wrapped 10'6" steelhead rod on a 3sc106mf2 blank, using american tackle titanium guides. size 16, 12, 10, 8x7. He says
