Turned using Andy Dear's instructional DVD with a piece of stabelized black ash burl also from Andy. Being new to the lathe I found his DVD invaluble.

Wanted to try something a little colorful for a change. I used Gudebrod garnet and the fade goes from a light yellow(lost the lable) to goldenrod and then sunburst.

I've been using a butt wrap alignment tool for years. A couple years ago I found It a great aid in writing on blanks. It holds the blank steady and at a good height for me to comfortably write. You have to let the ink dry 1st if your going to do more than a couple lines and probably wouldn't work good on bigger blanks.

Hi Rolly! I built a spinning rod with them when they 1st came out. The finish is coming of several of them already. I always used fuji before but wanted something a little flashy. They looked real nice for a while but I expect they're going to be very ugly in a couple years. The rings are very thick also so I think they would be a lot heavier than say an Alconite guide. I didn't weigh them

Steve, You can hold the end cap in some boiling water for a few minutes or use a heat gun that is used for removing paint. Hope this helps.

Hi Tom. I'm sorry to bother you again but I reregestered this morning, waited all day, and the e-mail still didn't arrive. Wouldn't there be a record if the e-mail came back as undeliverable? I checked my e-mail 4 times to make sure it was correct. Thanks Again, Chris

regardless of weather it was sent automatically, it never made to my box and I dont have the spam blocker enabled. Do you think the fact that I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird for my e-mail would have any effect?

Rich, You could use a small piece of gold chain cut so that it wraps around the dia. of the blank. Then coat with finish. Good Luck!

Emory, that was my 1st thought, unfortunately there is a 1' section busted out of the rod apx. 1 1/2' from the butt end. That is why the gentleman would like a new one. Thank you!

Hi. I''m trying to match the action on an older SCII (apx. 8 or 9 yrs.) fly blank that was built into an 8' spinning rod. The model # is GF 8056 as far as I can tell ( had to remove the rear grip to uncover the label). If I have to I'll use the 2F805 SCII but the customer would like the new blank to be black( the SCII is brown). I'm looking for a mod. action, 8' 5w in black. So far i'm le

Bill. This place seems to have a decent selection & prices.
Also this nova from Amazon
Maybe Andy would have some ideas. My Jet-mini is on the way but I'm still looking for a decent chuck at a good price. I hate to spend as much for the chuck as I did the lathe.

Kneale,
Jann"s NetCfraft sells their own IM 6 blanks in a "plum" color and is available as a fly blank. I built my wife a spinning rod on one years ago with purple & goldenrod wraps. Nice looking blank and the rod is very pretty. Good Luck!

This is in response to Dan Colville's thread because I have a question. I use Devcon 2-part for gluing rings but I was making checkerboard and ring inlays out of CustomGrip II and gluing them together with Weldwood contact cement. In the last year I've started to make inserts from burl and regular cork and found it a real pain to glue them together with epoxy so I tried the Weldwood and it's mu

Stirling, Ive still fished for trout in our local state park for about 25 years off and on. The way most do it around here is a small clip-on bobber is placed on the line between 2 guides so the line can slide through the clip. Pull out enough slack so that the bobber hangs about 10 - 12" bellow the rod. Set the hook when the bobber is on the rise. It is very sensitive if you use

24. Lathe shopping
Hi! There is an ad in my local paper for a lathe for sale. It's an AMT
12x55" w/ 8 chisles and 4" & 8" face plates for 225.00 I've been planning on getting a Jet Mini for turnig reel seats and handles. This AMT seems like it would be quite a bit larger but might be the ticket since I was thinking about turning bowls and vases later on. I was wondering if anybody was famili

I run across this product at Cue Components today.
Claims to stabilize wood without pressure. Nelsonite. Does anybody out there have any experience with this product? If it's good enough for pool cues it should work on reel seats and handles.
Thanks, Chris

I've read the recommendations for using Permagloss to refurbish old rod blanks. Seems to me Tru-oil might work as well. Has anybody tried Tru-oil for this application?

If you have Microsoft word you can make up a lable in any font. You then copy and paste it into an e-mail and send it to Decal Connection and they reproduce it.
