I am building a crappie rod for a friend and have never use the concept system for such a rod. the blank is a St. Croix SCIII 3S80MLM2 8" ML/ the guides I am using are Fuji CYAG's and CLAG's. When i place the rod with reel (spool removed) where the intersection is approximately in the middle of the blank, but since the reel is very small the place i would set my smallest guide (CLAG-6) is t

I was looking for something in the 4-8 lb rating, the rod will be used to cast small jigs (1/16) from a boat. I looked for a rod that matches what i want and am unable to find one. there are manufactures out there that design crappie rods (B n' M), which is why I don't understand why I can't find a blank. thanks again for the advice.

I recently post about help selecting a 8' crappie blank in the ultra-lite/lite range and discovered that no manufacture produced a blank that met the requirements I was looking for. I receive advice from some members of this board with experience building crappie rods and found I could use a fly rod blank, extend a 7' blank or trim a 8 1/2' or 9' steelhead blank. After consulting more help it was

I recently stripped all the guides off one of the first rods I build years ago. once i removed the guides i tried to get the rest of the epoxy that was left on the blank off, I did some searching on here and found about using heat (hair dryer) this worked but started to remove some of the original finish. So i decided to completely remove the entire finish and start from scratch. tried the hair d

I was out of rod building for about a year and have recently gotten back into it. I have been hearing alot about only using 3 quide sizes on fly rods from the article (which I plan to back order soon), but the idea is new to me. I am making 2 new rods and have already made a third, on the first I built a 10' 8wt and I sized the guides from size 16 and 12 strippers and then ran size 8's the rest o

any suggestions on guides to put on a 5wt 9" fly rod primarly used for medium river trout and a 8wt 10' fly rod to be used from salmon/steelhead? I heard alot about the REC recoil guides for lighter rods, but never had any experience with them yet vs. the single foot insert guides. On the larger rod I would like to use fuji single foot with insert, but not sure what is best price and duribil

Thanks again for all the advise. after looking at the blank I am curious what would cause a clean break. I assumed if ti was over stresses of broke in some other manner (car trunk or something) that they would splinter? thanks again to all

A fly rod i built for a customer a year ago recently broke and i will obviously replace it for him, but I had a question for those who have encountered this before. The rod broke about 4 guides down from the tip on the upper section fo the blank it was of no fault of the customers, but broke in an area where it could have only been cause by a defect in the blank. Could i just order the same bla

I heard of using a dremel, but im not sure how acurate this would be. I would like some advice before i mess up a nice piece of stabilized wood. Thanks in advance.............eric
