Just my own opinion. I see the spine as having an an effect on the casting ability and accuracy function. I believe that if the spine is located on the casting plane of the individual's style of casting, they'll be able to cast more accuratley. ( sorry, my spelling leaves a bit to be desired). As far as fighting fish goes. once the rod is under a heavy load, then the position of the guides take o

I've been told, and have built a couple of rods for crankbaits on "popping" rod blanks, and they seem to work very well for this purpose. Bob Vasko

Doug, I've found that the best epoxies for making reamers is either Devcon 2 ton, or any other slow cure, free flowing epoxy. I tried it with rod bond, but it just didn't work for me. What I do is coat the piece of blank with the epoxy., then stick it in my rod dryer for 10 or 15 minutes, then sprinkle grit on the stick until it's completly covered, and let it rotate until dry. Hope this Helps. B

Bruce, shame on you. Old rods can be used for extensions, repairs and for making cork reamers. I never throw away an old rod, and sometimes I go to garage sales, yard sales and flea markets looking for old rods. They can also be rebuilt and donated to kid's fishing programs, and I'm sure that there are other uses for old fishing rods. Bob Vasko

A few years ago I had a Ford escort that had the automatic seat belt thing where the top of the belt slides into position when the door is closed. Of course the tip of the rod was laying in the track. 6 inches gone in a flash. Don't feel bad, it happens to everyone sooner or later. BobVasko

A few years ago I built a 7' walleye rod for a stone handed walleye fisherman. Fast action, 6 to 10 lb test, tennesee sensor handle, Fuji titanium frame sic's and recommended Fireline. Results were an 11 lb plus walleye out of 35 ft of water while vertical jigging. Hope this helps. Bob Vasko

I was taught to use a high carnuba content, low abrasive content type wax. I put a coat of Birchwood Casey gunstock wax on all my rods about two or three days after finishing. Bob Vasko

Greg, you might want to try dabbing the c.p. onto the inscription, rather than brushing it on. Another alternative is to let it dry overnight before applying finish. Bob Vasko
