Anglers Workshop, a site sponsor, has a pretty impressive range of stuff. Their inventory is nothing like Kate's, but they may have what you need.

The speed of a synchronous motor is regulated by the frequency of the A/C power source, not voltage. I suspect you will find it difficult to find a dimmer that regulates frequency.

I am considering trying a coat of the original or standard formulation of Threadmaster over a single coat of Threadmaster Lite. I did a quick search of the site and I did not find any discussion on the topic.
Are there any compatability issues between the two materials when one is applied as a second coat over the other? Does anyone have any suggestions or tricks for best performance using

I have built well over 200 rods for my own personal entertainment during the last 40 years. I have never sold a single rod which puts me in a different class from the many excellent professional builders on this board. For me it is about the process, not about having a completed rod. Using a power wrapper would be like having and using a "fast forward" button in the arm of my chair i

Welcome to the 21st century. I was not too very long ago that there was one choice in color preservers, if you knew of it and could find a place to buy it (and before that there were none). Your question of "which" suggests improvement to me. None of the CPs currently being sold would be in business today if they did not perform well for someone. Each has its good points and some ma

Bernie, from all the requests above it would seem you need to get some copy in the mail to Tom for a new article in RodMaker.

I suspect there are others who do much the same, but I use 3M brand Scotch #2080 (low-tack) blue painter's tape with good results. Be careful though. There are several other higher-tack 3M blue painter"s tapes that I would not recommend for the purpose as they are too tacky and will lift thread fiber fuzzies and even loosen wraps.

The beauty of using rings is that you can always take more off until you get it right, so long as you start with rings with a large enough OD.
With a preformed grip, you have to find a grip that is at least as large in diameter as you need AND the ergonmomics may still be totally unsatisficatory.
Seems you are about to join the world of CUSTOM rod builders!

Not to add to your uncertainty, but to offer a different point of view. I'd recommend a 9 footer, rather than an 8 footer, in an 8 wt, especially if this is to be the owner's first fly rod for this application.
You will find a larger array of blanks to select from in this size, and I feel a 9 footer can be more easily roll cast and Spey cast single-handed when backed against trees on those

I've used their metallic threads successfully in 3 rods without CP. You do have to watch a bit more carefully for bubbles though. The commercial guys who build far more rods than I do may have other experiences though.

In additon to my obvious thanks for taking the initive to design the symbol in the first place, thanks now for starting this thread with your explanations. I had a question about your copyright plans the minute I received my magazine. As usual, you answered my mail before I sent it. Thanks, Tom.

Can't get much better service than that!
I found this series of blanks to be quite straight and the spline is not at all severe. I'd align your guides as suggested earlier, but it will not matt

I tried to order some from AWS last fall. Dave told me they were out of most colors. As I understood it, the product was made for them by Rice Industries who either went out of business or stopped making thread. I'd like to be wrong. It was GOOD stuff!

Have you possibly become a slave to your tool? Why not just take that section out of the wrapper, lay it across your lap and wrap the offending guide by hand?

You will certainly get the distance you seek with the new rod, Pete! I was casting MUCH farther than I cared to strip yesterday.
About grips: The standard preformed cork grips sold for Spey rods are a bit longer than you will ever need for this rod. Don't be afraid to keep the bottom grip to 5 inches or less and the top at 13 inches or less. The grips on mine are 5-1/4 and 13. If I we

Hi, Pete. I'm new to the board. Congrats on hooking up with the Meiz. Out this way many of us consider Bob to be a modern day Leonard or Payne in the world of two-handers. His rods are remarkable in both performance and cosmetics. Amazingly, Bob is also at least as generous with his time and his experience as he is skilled at designing and building rods. Don't be shy about calling him. Som
