2. fish wrap
Lastly, I had difficulty trying to get a photo without the metalic thread standing out, so I added thread preserver which helped bring out the other colours. Unfortunately the whole thing look shiny. Sorry about that!! cheers roz :)

I was really over fish wraps, but since I NEEDED a second NV7, to go with my other NV. I thought they should match..sort of. Is that a female thing??? the other also has a fish wrap (one of my earlier offerings).

5. blue scales
Yet another scale wrap. A friend asked me to build a rod and wanted the scale pattern for the butt wrap... So I'm not simply turning out scale patterns, it just looks that way. I feel this one is a little better than the last. I was able to add a little more shading this time around, noting the order of colours pass by pass on the last wrap (green scales) was a big help. Might pay to do that with

12. butterfly
This is a version of a wrap I saw and liked on this site. The original is entitled "green butterfly tie-down"...I think. Anyway, I had to wing it from the photo.

14. shark
Got a photo just before I cut the leader to release the shark. I don't target them, they just turn up from time to time. Guessing it was a species of whaler shark, very common on the east coast and a bit of a pest at times.

15. hexagonal McGinn
This is the second wrap for this rod. I ruined the first by not using CP. Didn't fall into that trap again. As mentioned before, the blank is hexagonal, so Dave Boyle devised a six axis pattern for me, thanks again Dave.
cheers Roz :)

finally did it!!! At this point I must say the rod was great & I'm extremely happy with the way it handled this particular fish, over the next few weeks I pulled up a couple of sharks on the same rod...I don't target them, & they can be annoying at times, as they can take ages to bring along side, to simply let them go.... If you're wondering why, I prefer not to cut a fish off wi

20. snapper
A late afternoon fish last week turned up six snapper up to 4kg.
The water was not as clear as usual due to the floods in south east QLD, certainly brings on the snapper though.
Hung around for a while and watched the lunar eclipse, amazing to see a huge full moon turn red over the water.

Unfortunately for me this is a temporary pattern, I ruined it by NOT using thread preserver.
Here is the before pic.
the pattern was made possible with the help of Dave Boyle and his viswrap program,ta for that Dave.
The blank is a McGinn.
I will definately be doing another wrap on this unusual hexagonal blank & hope second time lucky.

22. black king/cobia
Another favourite of mine. They will always test your stamina. I also find them good eating if filleted and prepared with care.

Very happy to post a pic of my first scale pattern, but before I go further I MUST give credit to the Visual Wrap software. I never thought in a million years I would be attempting an eight axis wrap, but the program reduces the margin of error regarding layout points. For me that was the biggest hurdle to over come in achieving a pattern like this. However, I still have to work on my packing, but

27. redback
I saw the wrap done by someone else on this site, and so decided to have a go using the exact same colours.
Wasn't easy to copy from a photo, but I'm stubborn. I love the result but I will adjust the dimensions next time around. Also had an issue with the thread. The fine metalic gold I used, left a gap where it ran over the thicker black C thread. I still have more packing/closing to do but I

I mostly catch spanish mackeral, I think they also maybe called king mackeral in other countries. Anyway, the fish in the pic is only average sized.
More importantly the rods on the left are both home builds, by me. Making the end result a lot more satisfying.

29. Giant Trevelly
Caught this GT on my first home built rod. Unfortunately a few years later the rod broke... it was my fault. I had'nt used enough guides, but in my own defence, I was told how many guides the rod needed.
It broke under the strain of another Giant Trevelly, fortunately I was still able to land the fish and release it.
these fish grow to over double the size of the one in the photo, and IMO
