I used the basic concept of the @#$%& tension device but used stronger magnets and a center post to keep the spool from coming off during start up.

If the device is the same as it was a few years of ago I did not have much luck with it trying to use it on a power wrapper. Might work OK on a hand wrapper. I ended up making my own using a lot stronger magnets and a threaded cap to adjust the spacing between the magnets for tension and a center shaft to keep the thread spool from coming off. With this set up I am able to run my power wrapper at

The problem that will be more and more common is the USPS is starting to use flat sorting machines for the Magazines so the carrier can spend more time on the street and less time in the office. My wife is a letter carrier and has said she gets a lot of Mags that have bent and ripped covers and pages. I do not know how many areas are up and running with these machines but more and more are being

Roger: Let the focal length be your deciding factor. I use an optivisor everyday at work and a high power lens with a 4 inch focal length will not do you much good. I would have someone measure the distace you like work on rods and get the visor that fits that distance. I have tried several brands and for me the optivisor is the one I like.

The idea has been around for years I had seen some that had wider grooves in them before I made these. Doug Weber the guy that taught me how to build rods had the idea for the ones I made and then I added my two cents worth and we ended up with what is in the picture. Doug also put a lot of time into developing a process to get better results. One of the things he came up with that I then made

The Round works good and will not give you a problem once you get the process down. Using shim stock around the cork and in the cuts will give you better results. I made some jigs like the ones Mudhole has only I made mine out of hardened steel so they would not wear. I posted a picture on the photo page back in 2006. Allen

Tom I understand and agree with part of what you are saying . I work in the start up medical device industry where millons of dollars are put up front on just an idea and 9 out of 10 medical device companies fail. I realize that it is two different industries and the business models do vary but the risk that was being asked to take was minimal. The difference with Mikes charter business, Rodmaker

Ken: Part of what you would like to see in regards to bookkeeping, taxes, and insurance requirements, that would best be found in a CPA in your area that knows your local state and federal tax laws and your insurance agent. The federal laws I think would be the same through out the country Local and state laws will change. As far as promoting rodbuilding an orginization or association could

Your right Scott I made the original it was a joint effort of mine and a friends ideas. He had the idea and I refined it a bit. Being a machinist by trade and having access to the latest in machining technology I built the ones for myself that were in the picture and a couple for my friend out of the hardened tool steel. I also made some fixtures for flat sanding the slices and for clamping the c

The @#$%& works OK if you are hand wrapping I had the same pull over problem with the @#$%& on my power wrapper at start up. I ended up making my own using more powerful magnets and an adjustible peice made out of delrin AF which is delrin with teflon in it and a center post that goes inside the piece that has the tread spool attached. Works great and the nice part about it is I do not need to a

Alps also made the printers for Citizen I have the Citizen Printiva 700 uses the same drivers and print cartridges as the Alps printers. I run it iff of an old laptop with windows 98 anything newer and the drivers would not load up and when I down loaded the drivers off of the Alps web site it was lacking the screen for the metallics. Their is no problem getting the Advanced Custom Rod Building book it looks like it went to a second printing in 1987 so you should pay no more than cover price of $29.95. The Custom Rod Thread Art had only one printing in 1982 and it was published by Rodcrafters Press. Allen Madsen San Jose, CA

I had the same problem with my printer the old drivers would not load on my computer and the new drivers would not let me do metallics. I ended up getting an old laptop with windows 98. Doing that the old drivers loaded right up and the screen that askes about metallics pops right up any time I have a metallic cartridge loaded. Allen

You can buy jewelers saws with 2 3/4 inch up to 6 inch throats and saw blades down to around .006 wide. The problem then lies in the jig. The width of the slots in the aluminum jigs is around .060 so there is alot of slop and the slices and the pie sections will not be uniform in size. I made myself some hardened steel jigs with .010 wide slots to guide the blade and that works out great but unle

Gary I found that the Micro set allowed me to move my decal around to locate it where I wanted it without it I the decal was sticking where I placed it and there seemed to be no way I could keep it wet enough using just water that would allow the decal to move. I did not need the micro sol and from what the guy at the hobby shop told me putting a decal on a smooth surface I would not need

I have a Citizen printer which was made by Alps for Citizen and they to are no longer made but use the same cartriges and printer drivers as the Alps. Beware I did find out the hard way that the drivers you can down load off the internet will not support metallics and the drivers that come on the prin
