I have had some great success in creating splice repairs following Mr, O'Quinn's article here in the library. As I understand in that article the inner plug should allways be shorter than the outer sleeve. I see here that Roger is recommending the plug and sleeve be the same length. Is there a reason for them being the same length and wouldn't that put too much stress at the ends of the repair?

This is also a good place to add a little flair if you want. Rather than using the plug you can add a coin or button or whatever your imagination can come up with to cover the hole. I build rods for a bass club as trophies for their points champion and allways add a coin with the year they won to date the rod.

I was following the wife around an antique/craft shop one day and found a jar full of misc. buttons several of them with military theme. I have used several to inlay into the butt cap or just to fill the hole in the end of rods. If you have a shop like that around or maybe look for military buttons at a local sewing shop.

I've seen photos here and in Rodmaker of combo rods with removeable or reversable butt grips built to be used as either fly or spinning rods. I did some searching but could not find any thing about what guides have been used for this type rod. Anybody have any recomendations?
Thanks
Brian

Uriel,
Remember when you started pouring your owr plastics and you were just goin to try it to see how it went and now you can't stop. You might just as well get both blanks, especially if you are getting any kind of price breake through the class, cause once your addicted you can't stop.

Thanks for the replies. I think I figured out what happened. I had sprayed this blank with Duplicolor auto clear coat. The butt wrap was an open wrap and I put the color lock on only the threads, did not coat the entire area as I did with the guides. I suspect it was some kind of reaction between the clear coat and the Permagloss that caused my problem. I was able to save the wrap and salvage thi

I'm having problems with finish an a rod I'm working on. I don't usually use CP but this rod needed the colors to come out just right for the company I'm building it for. I put U-40 color lock on all wraps about 5 days ago and just now got back to start finishing it. About 5 min after putting a coat of U-40 Perma gloss on it started to bubble and the color lock turned to a milky jel. Both product

I had thought of doing something simmilar to this for a local tackle shop. But what I was thinking was to build a rod with a few different style/color guides. Each with a different color/style wrap (trim bands/inlays) and a couple of short butt wraps just to show what was possible. Then offer a small percentage to the tackle shop for any leads that produce a sale. Just a thought and if it didn't
