George Harris's hat pins were used for the inlays. Somewhat similar to the method used by Jesse, but just a little different concept.

10. Re: Spine
During my last 40 years of rod building, I have properly addressed the "spine" more times than any other subject. Many exceptional rod builders have researched, tested and documented their results including Tom, Don Morton and many others. The fact is the "spine" is the result of an action. What is more important is, are the guides going to be "on top" or "on

11. Re: Bernie Cohen
Bernie is an orginal thinker and developer of rod art. After seeing his inlay presentation a few times I realized that I could apply his concept to feather inlays. After many attempts I finally achieved a resonable image of fish with a feather inlay. I will be ever grateful to him as an artist who shares his talents with fellow rod builders.

Thank you Mike for your kind comments. Hopefully we can look forward to many more ICRB blasts that will showcase the concepts for rod building in the future, that I feel we have only scratched the surface with such things a micro guides, carbon sleeve handles and who knows what in new materals for rod blanks! I look forward to being a part of this in the furture.
Take care

For the second time in a few years " Mud Hole" has featured my rods on the cover of their Summer Catalog. I consider this as a significant event as they have always included some great rod builders on their cover.
I want to personally thank Tom and his Mud Hole talented staff for their work on making my rods look better than they actually are.
The important thing that I want to co

Snake Skins will normally have more stretch than reptile skins that are heavier. Joe is correct about the discoloration of the skins and having a bloc hey appearance. This problem can be lessened if you use a color preserver similar to U40 color loc and really saturate the skin and apply multiple coats. The color preserver generally allows the skins to stretch. Please let us know the resul

The name of the company is the "Skin Shop", 800-544-0793. Ask for "Dwayne" and be sure to tell him the skins are for rod building. The skins are tanned and have no (or very few) scales. They are low grade skins, easy to work with, and a reasonable price.

have the old type P-touch label maker and it produces great labels in many colors. The problem is the tape is very thick with a sticky back. It's almost impossible to apply a tans parent label and make the label edges disappear. If this problem has been eliminated, the new P-touch series may produce acceptable labels

Custom Tackle Supply is a first class operation. Bob and Scott are always helpful and they provide fast and efficient service. They are also supporters of custom rod building and host a seminar every spring. If you haven't been to one of their "Duck River" bashes you have missed a real bang up get to gether.
