Thanks Ross,
I don't have the blanks yet. I am considering which one to order to build a bait caster. They are listed as the same specs, from the same manufacturer. They are rated for the same line size, same lure weights. The 7'6" would have one more guide.
Thanks again.

Kind of a basic question. If I have two blanks one 7'6" and one 7'0" and they are both Med Heavy and both have a Fast Tip. Will they feel the same except for one being longer? Will the 7'0" be a little stiffer?
Thanks.

Herb, I was thinking about a #U3 unlock. As far as appearance I tend to go understated/stealth. It is a charcoal blank and I probably would go with gun smoke and a rosewood insert. For grip I was looking at a reverse half well in a high quality cork.

Thanks Russ.
The formula looked pretty good and I am very comfortable doing single foot but I don't know the advantage of the old school vs new school (wire guides vs. insert guides.
Is it primarily weight or is there a casting advantage in one over the other.
Thanks,

I am a hobby builder and have about 3 dozen spinning and casting rods under my bellt. My son brought me a F905-4 Rainshadow 4 piece fly blank and asked me to build him a rod.
I am at a loss where to start with the guides. I want to use a good quality/performing set of guides. I found a Batson spacing chart for 10 guides. I would value some guide and tip top recommendations from you veteran

Any ideas then as to why I am losing the depth of color and metallic look?

I have a novice question. I am using a lot of Gudebrod Mettalic thread for wrapping guides size A. Everything goes fine and I coat it with Flex Coat CP but the metallic luster fades very, very fast and in some cases almost immediately after applying the flex coat high build epoxy, both are about 8 years old!
I need the collective wisdom of the correct CP to use or do I need a different epo

My son wants me to build him a swimbait casting rod for bass. Probably will be throwing 8" Castaic's or slightly larger. I was thinking 7' or 7'6". He is still new to fishing so I don't want to spend a fortune on the blank. Any recommendations.
Thanks,

Ken, Thanks for the quick reply. Tip over butt graphite. A Cabela's graphite 6'6" spin. I tried to get down to the enge. How critical is it going right to the edge?

I recently build a two piece rod as a gift. I purchased a 2 piece blank with the built in ferrel. The ferrel cracked on the first cast. I had wrapped the ferrel for reinforcing and epoxied it. The crack is visible through the thread and enough so the tip section is loose.
Did I miss something? I have used mass produced rods that had no reinforcing. This is the first two piece rod I've bu
