Swimbait Blank recommendations

My son wants me to build him a swimbait casting rod for bass. Probably will be throwing 8" Castaic's or slightly larger. I was thinking 7' or 7'6". He is still new to fishing so I don't want to spend a fortune on the blank. Any recommendations.

Call or e-mail Robert at fishsticks4u (sponsor on the left). Ask him about which Rainshadow blank he would recommend. They are very nice rods and you can't go wrong with the price. I would agree that a 7 ot 71/2 ft rod would be great for tossing these large swimbaits.

I throw lot's of swimbaits and the very best blank I have used to date is the Shikari 794F, either the SHIII or SHII series. The III series has x-fast tip and the SHII series is a fast tip. The SHII is affordable and just a super blank. You can cut a couple inches from the butt if you feel it might be to long for your son. I have also built on the Rainshadow, but much prefer the Shikari. Merrick Tackle can get you the blanks. Rogue has some Swimbait blanks that are also very good, but I can't ever find anyone who can get them for me. I have several Lake Fork guides that are using my rods that I built on the Shikari SHII 794F, some of them are the full 7'9", and some shortened to what works best for the situation, etc. Everyone of them Love the rods.

I have used the rainshadow musky blanks for swimbait rods... I was really impressed at both the price and quality. If the budget was bigger, I might go with some other blank but not unless I was planning on throwing big swimbaits for more than 3 or 4 hours at a time.

I like the graphite usa blanks.I have built myself and a couple buudies one and no problems. feet long.The model i got is pur80m from mudhole.

I've built on the Calstar GF800L and the Rainshadow SW967. Both are very good choices although I would personally side with the SW967.

Back Bounce blanks also are a good option. Rogue is one place that has a couple of good models.
