Can you post a pic of the finished product? I'm thinking about doing the same thing with a surf cating blank that I'm building. Unfortunately they don't make reel sats with 24mm on up with triggers. There is a local builder in my area who I believe shapes them out of blocks of graphite ( I think). Looks pretty noce but I'm sure with some dremmel work the Fuji trigger should work well. Good luck

Aloha Gang, I have searched and even posted about this topic before and have been given the simple answer "YES, maderia can be used for guide wraps." So this means that it is strong enough, RIGHT? What I failed to ask in my original post was, is maderia okay for type of rods I am building, 13'-14' heavy conventional surf rods? Will the maderia be strong enough for these? Most buid

HELP! can anyone tell me where I can find a copy of CRTA? I looked to the sponsors on the right and found that they do not have them in stock. Are there any retail outlets that still have these in stock? If so, can you please post their address or tele so that I can give them some buisiness! :) BTW- I have found some on @#$%& and scattered on the internet for 180$ and up but if they have th

I just figured out what CRTA stands for, LOL! That book is way to rich for my pockets. I want to get started in thread art andwas wondering if Billy V's book will be similar to what the CRTA book is. I guess people will start calling their patterns from his book as BVTA (Billy V Thread Art). Hey, BV where can I send the $ for BVTA : ) ? Mahalo, Allen

Tony, Check out the makoi blanks at Don's tackle to the left. Your friend probably slides bait so go with the 605 or 607. I believe that merrick tackle and CTS will have these at High point at the upcoming show. Also, you can check out the Talon ulua rods You will want to look at the blanks rated for 60-80# test for slide bait rods. A local blank that is really popular is the Outcast blanks,

Aloha All, Are there any other alternatives to Maderia poly 40 wt. Thread. I will mostly be using them for butwrapps not on the guides. I spoke to a sweing store here who carries the mad deer and she said that she may have other poly type thread to suggest. Its supposed to be thicker so I am assuming easier to use. I guess I'm asking ,why maderia.? What qualities seperate it from the ot

Try these two sites. They give you information about thier rods. CTS Makoi rods should have something that you are looking for. I have not toss these myself but have heard nothing but great things about them, Ask Don Becker (he's on here). The Talon site has an array of rods to suit your needs as well. These are American made and have caught 100+lb Uluas here in Hawaii so they can catch f

DB, I had a blank custom wrapped by one the local shops and noticed the same thing when I was checking its spine for proper guide placement. "The guides shifted over to about 025 degrees." Should I be concerned? Also, jus for clarification if I am building a Slide bait rod with a 20 ring tip should the guides be placed on the top part when locating the spine on a spine finder?

Aloha all, One of our local builders here in Hawaii makes graphite triggers that are placed under the reel seat, here is a picture . The picture does not do it justice but I was wondering if any of you have ever made such a product and how easy or difficult would it be to fabricate one? -I know that there are reelseats out there that have these sort of triggers already on them but most Ulu

Sorry to change the subject but how does these acid/bump/dump wraps do for casting? I will be casting a conventional with 40-80# test, will the line be able to travel through the guides effeciently for a far cast (80-100 yards with a 6-10oz grabber lead weight)? I can see how the acid wraps and its variations can help when reeling in a fish but again, How does work/help in casting? Mahalo

I have read several posts in here concerning splines and it seems it dose'nt matter or it really just provides peace of mind to those who do spline thier blanks. I personally like the peace of mind. I am splining 14' ulua poles rated for 30-50#/80# test and am having a difficult time trying to figure out which is the spine. I roll the blank and have a spine finder and am finding two places where

DG, Thanks for the reply, I will be using titanium guides and am after Giant Trevellay (sp?) aka ULUA. Here is a link to our local website . We try to cast at least 100 yards but I get maybe 80-barely 90 yards. I am still working on my casting. Here is alink to the type of casting that we do . I am not familiar with the Bumper Wrap, can you elaborate or explain. Mahalo, Allen -Blanks
