I use mop and glo or future on all the rods i finish. even matte blanks. The reason is that it makes clean up after fishing a little easier. on gloss blanks it just protects the gloss look. and adds a little extra protection.

Bill a trip to Lowes or home depot may be required. Funny i have been thinking about the same things. I hate the way my butcaps have been turning out and was looking to try some different things. I am heading out this weekend to those 2 places to come up with some kind of solution. I was actually thinking like those metal drywall things you put in to hang thing on. The heavy duty ones etc.

There is a wholesaler fuji rodbuilding business i Japan that carries all that neat stuff. Anodized winding checks balancing systems etc. I believe it www.matagi.co.jp tough to read but you should be able to find what you need there.

Myles,
Should be no problem as long as your guides are the concept high frame type. I regularly use 20's when using 1500 size reels and really have no issues. The size 6 fly guides will be fine as well. For all my bass rods i only use size 6 and have even experimented with size 5 as well. Good luck. My next project will be a similar rod to what you are building.

Tom,
Thanks for the reply. What guides do i use. I am assuming that Standard single foot spinning guides will not be the answer, Or maybe they are. He is pretty rough on equipment and i want to make sure i give hime a top quality rod.

I have a buddy of mine who wants a 7' spinning rod for striper fishing In New York/New Jersey. I have no idea what blank, or guides to use. Any help would be appreciated. Most of his fishing is done with Live Bait and Lures up to 1oz.
Thanks,
Gregg

I did a musky rod this year and painted the fuji reel seat red with Car paint and added 2 coats of Klass Kote Epoxy. I did scuff the entire reel seat and sanded down the threads. after 1 yr outside (i do all this to test my projects) and hard musky fishing the color is still outstanding and holding up well. Hope this helps.

11. Re: I hate epoxy
I totaly understand how you feel. for me epoxy was the toughest especially when doing a but wrap etc. I have actually gone to using all klass Kote because it was so thin and for me easier to work with. I just got done with 2 rods after several month lay off and was still able to get good results. I just brush it on thinly, make sure the rod is level and let it turn. It does take 2 or 3 coats
