I could not tell from the description that this is a fiberglass blank?

Patrick and John: your information changes the picture for me, so buying a couple blanks is a reasonable solution. I’m just such a tight wad! ????

Interesting. New to me is federal excise tax. $35 flat rate. $52 blank will cost me 100 bucks.

Thanks for replying clearing that up! I’m a big fiberglass fan for crank baits and one could only imagine that the NFC glass has got to be good!

Somewhat confusing to me that the freshwater blanks are described with a header that says graphite. However, the detailed description for the first six blanks describes them as “fast glass”
So I’m a little confused as whether they’re actually a fiberglass blank?

Can you tell me for tip and butt specifications, what does Null mean? And no size listed?

I just looked at that. So can I guess that a blank, as such, can be spi

Hi Christian,
Responding, particularly to your comment about fiberglass blanks. I became a fan of fiberglass blanks in the early 90s. Using rattle traps in tidal creeks I was losing easily 80% plus fish using graphite rods. My first fiberglass blank was a St. Croix SG – 56M. From the first fish on every rattle trap was deep in their mouth. I’ve built three of them before the blank was discontinu

If you have Clemens’ Adanced custom rod building, He discusses guide construction on page 201. Maybe someone else will comment but it looks to me like most of the guides nowadays do not have shock rings.
I was going to post a picture of our an old guide that has a shock ring, but I

I’m so out of touch with materials in general. I would still use pistol grips on shorter rods. I just put a short strai

I use 10 minute epoxy or superglue gel in a pinch. No matter what you use it all comes off with heat. Even Clemens recommended epoxy back in the day. During the build, I usually take it on and off with glue sticks.

24. Re: Spine of Rod
I’m really glad I found this post and link. I’ve been building rods since the late 80s. I have no fancy equipment always used a Dictionary, cup and weight for my tension. I don’t use a rotating device for my rod finish. I usually thin with acetone and apply multiple thin coats rotating for one hour every 10 minutes 90°
So I’m gearing up to build a couple rods, and as I review all my informat
