Yeah, after talking to John at flex coat today it is an easy decision. Thanks to all for the insights.

Thanks for replies so far. So if you do not need really higher rpms for straighter edges I guess all i really need is a single speed low rpm system.
So I guess the next question is flex coat vs crb. Flex coat is considerably more money but looks better built (more sturdy). What would you buy if you were me?
Also is it worth getting the slip clutch, it seems very practical so I am leaning

Hello Rod-builders, I was looking at purchasing the Flex Coat VSM variable speed motor for both applying finish as well as rod drying. The motor operates from 40 - 200 RPMs. I was leaning towards this unit for straighter finish lines. However, I was told that the 40 RPM minimum speed is too fast for rod drying. My first instinct is no way, 18 rpms okay, but is 40 too fast so I wanted to check wit

I think I found the answer to my questions. the recommended way to mount the aero reel seat to the rod blank is by using a size 16 arbor. like these:

Hi michael, sarcasm appreciated.i just thought the grip would not fit the hand properly when reversed. I will try it when I get my aero comfort to see which way I like better. Is their an advantage to uplocking ?

Hi Alex, this gets to the heart of my original question of what is the best way to professionally finish one of these seats if you have a standard reel seat w/o the uni-lock nut with tenon for the fore-grip sleeve. Although I understood so little at the time I made the post I am not even sure if what I was asking made sense.
So if I want to stay with the AERO comfort (no uni-lock version

That is my understanding Michael, that the aeros with pam swell cqn only be used in down locking.

Ok guys, I think I figured this out. The Aero Comfort does not have a uni-lock option. But The Aero CCT does. So by switching to the Aero CCT Uni-Lock version, then I can directly use the ATC G2 uni Lock Hood to finish the fore-grip. It was the fact that aero comfort not being available in Uni-Lock was causing my mass confusion.
Thank you all so much for helping me out!

Hi Spencer, thanks for the reply! Forgive me my ignorance here. Let me see if i understand you. I think you are saying the reel seat threads and nuts are pretty standard. So I should be able to take any hidden thread nut and use that instead of the exposed thread nut that comes with the aero (i.e Fuji KDPS) and then glue any fore grip sleeve over the KDPS hidden thread. In this case, the nut and

Thanks Kendall for the input. the 2500/3000 is one of the bigger debates I have had in my head. In the end I think the 3000 will offer more flexibility in terms of what line I load on it
The only real advantage to the 2500 XH is the higher gearing ratio which allows a little more line per turn.
Ballistic is definitely interesting option, initially ruled it out on budget considerations.

Hello rod builders, I am planning to use the ATC Aero Comfort Reel Seat on my next build. I am trying to figure out what are my options to finsh rod in front of the reel seat. Btw plannning to use the ART G2 Carbon grip in the rear.
My question is can I use the ATC G2 Uni-Lock fore grips to finish off the fore grip area?
If not, It is not clear to me that ATC makes a specific G2 Carbon Fore

Lance, Thanks for your inputs - much appreciated. will definitely check put these alternatives. A quick follow up question for you. When going with the 20# braid does it make sense to move to a 3000 size reel?

Hello, I am newbie to rod building and to the forum, so go easy on me :) I am in process specifying components for a medium powered open water inshore rod (meaning do not plan to use in structure). It will be used to target you typical florid inshore species, trout, Spanish mac, red fish, etc. I fish almost exclusively with artificial lures including soft plastics, top waters, bucktails, spoons,
