From the MHX line you could probably get away with the NMB873.5 for both applications, it's really a fantastic and multi purpose rod. Light, sensitive and strong.
I tend to throw 1/2 oz spinnerbaits with the 873.

MHX CB 907 is a great blank for deep cranks, also use for chatterbaits.

I ended up going with a P704- HM, currently being built, i'll report back on how it preforms. I wanted something that could throw multiple baits specifically on rocky rivers for smallmouth. Hopefully it's a happy medium for Jerkbaits and other smallmouth techniques.

I have two MHX CB845's which are the 7'ers. Love them for squarebills and really any crankbait sub 10'. I have like 8-8.5" rear handles on them so I can roll cast. Probably one of my favorite blanks from MHX.

I like the mhx s721, not quite there in length but it’s a fun little rod for crappies.

Rick - I feel the elite pro’s from mhx don’t compare to the other blanks from mhx. The elite x and standard blanks are on G loomis old mandrels and more along those old loomis lines, per what I’ve heard. The elite pro’s were on a completely different path and are a bit softer but also way lighter than standard blanks. You’re going to like the NEPS78MF for walleye, super light and sensitive. I hav

I can confirm the the mhx cb907 is pretty unique. Doesn’t feel like a heavy but is when you really lay into one it is. It’s mod fast 100% but the tip doesn’t flex hard until needed. That’s my 1/2 oz chatterbait rod. The numbers are all fine as a road map but you need to fish a blank to really feel it out. Was going to try the nfc cb704 but swapped it out last minute, so can’t compare.

I made a similar post about scarring without mentioning the company and received 3 responses, someone asked me to name the company. I know to not do that :)

MHX spinning blank I like the NEPS78MF for walleye, NEPS81MXF for an all around bass finesse rod.

So I ordered and received unfinished/natural blanks, 3 look great, one has small scarring with little pits in the graphite in several parts of the blank. The look doesn't bother me, just want to make sure it's just as durable (The pitting scares me) and this is normal with unfinished blanks. I tried to see if there was a topic already about this but I'm probably not using the correct technical te

I used Fenwick HMG’s for years, I use MHX mostly now, standard models and elite X and Elite Pros. The HMG’s didn’t hold a stick to standard model MHX blanks custom made. I have 4 NFC’s on the docket to be built. The fenwick had good components but going custom I changed everything but the Fuji real seat’s which I preferred. Custom is custom, should be made for the end user.

No one else has chimed in about NFC going downhill, is it safe to assume they're not? My order is set to arrive Monday from NFC and I've built 25 personal rods and nothing from NFC yet. Can't wait!

Aleks - When will this reel seat be available? Never could find it on the NFC website when ordering.

That’s all good information, thank you. Would a stress test of the same blank on the spline/spine result in the same guide placement for a spinning and casting blank.

NFC has spacing and guide placement by blank, figuring that’s more accurate than most companies and should be pretty close to a stress text, I know each blank is different. Just wondering if spinning vs casting can be intermixed since they list spinning guide placement with minimal guides but casting with more. I’ve used 9-10 guides on sub 7’ spinning blanks and they cast great, still light, have

Probably a stupid question but on the NFC guide spacing by blank lists spinning rods as 7 guides (normally) and casting as 9-11 guides (normally) if I’m building spinning rods with 10 guide trains. P703 hm, p704 hm and sj762 IM. Can I use the casting guide placement for a spinning setup. I know I should do my own placement based on the blank I receive but I think what they list and a 10 guide tra

Pulled a 28" flat head out of a 30' hole with a MHXs721... had a couple beers trying to get that thing to the boat. I love catching fish on light gear/line too!

I've used CRB Elites, Fuji Alconite and CRB LZR's. I think Fuji is better quality but they all work well and the differences are minor. I just wouldn't go with "standard" grade guides. Mudhole stands behind their products (CRB) and have been great about replacing items if not perfect. I fished TI SIC guides and didn't notice anything. To me the midgrade guides are good enough and gives

For casting distance, which it seems you're looking for. Maybe a longer rod like a 7'6"-8' would be helpful? Just a thought, sounds like the FW702 might work, sounds like more rod than the MHX spinning series. Great information.

I’ve never used the FW line seems like the mhx s or spinning line. Agree with Matt 100% those are panfish/trout rods. I’ve caught bass on them but you have zero control over the fish once hooked.

I used the Shimano curado E’s for years, switched to lew’s tournament pros 7.5 for my all purpose reels, lew’s bb1 pro 6.2 for my moving baits/cranks, lew’s custom pro 8.3 for high end rods and bottom contact and lew’s super duty for my heavy applications (thick frogging, lures over an ounce, etc). Really enjoy them and they’re nice and small so easy to palm. Lew’s go on good sales. I’ve used alm

Just ordered a few NFC blanks. Hs-7600 Hm, sj-762 IM, P-703 HM and P-704 HM. We’ll see how it goes. It’s going to hopefully be my smallie go to rods. We’ll see! Covering small cranks and finesse jigs to hair jigs and Ned’s.

El- MHX is good, I like the elite pro line in spinning neps81MXF and NEPS81MLXF. Going to try a few NFC as MHX prices are bonkers, Mudhole used to have crazy deals.

The SB-722 Xray has interested me, some other suggestions I've received might be the P-703 HM or Sj-762 HM (if you want something longer) those are 75% off if you get 3 blanks in SM, IM or HM grades. I'm interested in trying NFC, currently using all MHX blanks so can't go by experience just research.

I might build a p703 as a spinning rod and was thinking the p704 as a casting rod, I’d love to throw cranks with some extra feel. I tend to fish the upper Mississippi and there’s some dinks but we get some giants. We’ll see!

John - That's great information I've been intrigued with the P703 HM after Lance mentioning it in a separate post. Now you are adding the P704 HM to the list, are you building these both as spinning rods then? I really like a soft tip and more of a parabolic bend with smaillies because they're really good at throwing a bait.
