thank you Tom
Maybe #2's would be slightly on the small side with the connections (loops) of a spey line I wonder if 3's would be more appropriate?
again I am new to the spey thought process my usual Dt or Wf fly line would easily pass through a #2 but maybe not a head system.
I imagine the larger guide size would also help with iceing. I've always progressed down to the running guide size

Wow this is a great site!
Well, my FT 1006- 4 is on the way and I had a couple of questions I hope you can help me with. I plan on using it as my primary steelhead rod for the Lake Erie and Ontario (eastern shore) tribs I most often frequent. I want to set it up as a switcher even though I will probably start off useingit as a nymphing rod so over time I can get the most out of this blank. I've

Bob,
thank you for your reply and for further expaining the importance of matching the Rod to the line during our phone conversation today.
It was a pleasure talking to you and refreshing as that kind of quality converstaion doesn't always happen here on the East Coast.
I think I'm going to opt for the FT 10' 6wt as you were right I am at this point basically using trout techniques to catch

I am hopeing to build a new rod to be used primarily for Steelhead on the great lakes tribs specificaly those of Lake Onterio and Erie. I've pretty much decided on a Dan Craft 10' blank as I've read soem good things about the blank. I love my FT 907-4 but it is a little to short and stiff for this application. I am primarily high sticking with nymphs or swinging fly's but would like to try a lit

I checked out the worried shrimp wow!! nice site! and the burl looked good too. :-)
I think I'll give it a shot. I also liked the way the tru oil made them look, really seemed to pull out the contrasts. I only ever sealed a cork grip once and proceded to sand it off the next day. Hated the glossy (slippery) feel. Can I assume that if I don't use many coats of the oil it won't get too glossy?

Is there a "standard" or maybe accepted would be a better term of sizing guides for a fly rod when you know the length and wieght and the action?
Up until now I've always just used a chart or other info to Size the guides.
Is there a better way? Here is my next project
I what to build a fast action 9' 10wt for salt water
I'm thinking:
1- 16mm stripper
1-12 mm stripper
4- size

Ok, here is the scoop it took some snooping but this is what I found out:
crosscurrent 4pc rods are based on the GLX blank
crosscurrent 3pc rods are based on the GL 3 blank thus no "GLX" in the model number.
Seemed to be way to much of a differance in price from 4pc. to 3 pc. Even taking into consideration the extra labor.

Does anyone know if all of the G Loomis Cross Current rods are based on their GLX blank?
There is quite a difference in price betwwen their 4pcs. models and their 3 pc.
I also notice only the 4 pc. models have GLX in their model #.
Could the 3pc. rods be based on the IMX blank?

I want to build a rod that will primarily be used to jump Tarpon maybe the occaisional Permit or Big Snook. Unfortunatly I have never been so I could use some help. I don't want to make it too heavy or long so it wears you out casting all day. My first thought was 9'- 10WT Dan Craft or a Loomis GLX. Am I thinking right? Could use some advise from an experianced Tarpon Jumper!
thanks

Ok, I'm sure you guys have had some discussions about this one but, I 'd like to ask a question or two concernenig the spline (spine). First as I understand it the spline is wear the blank (fly) wants to naturally bend but is the spline the outside of the arc or the inside? I usally check two ways Finder and Table top on each blank.
Also in guide placement: should you place guides on the "

I talked to a person on Friday late (3/3/06) It wasn't Ron but she seemed to be fairly well informed.
She stated they started shipping in bulk on the 25th and have been shipping continuously since. Bob and the people at H&H have always treated me very well it's hard to imagine any better service. Also being a buisness owner my self, I know customer loyaltiy is imperavtive durring times of tr

Hello everyone,
great site by the way!
I want to build a 10 wt rod for a friend and could use a little advise.
The Rod will be used for King Salmon and the occasional Permit/Tarpon jumping trip. I think the correct lenght would be 9 feet but I am not sure about the action.I'm a little affraid the ultra fast action blanks may be too unforgiving.
I (was) considering a SC1V or Rainshadow RX7+
