I learned to call that the "dirty" side of the build. Try to keep all of that on one side. No real getting around it except to burnish. Also, I've found it is not normally visible once you epoxy the thread wrap.

Hello, I have been trying to search the site for a walleye bottom bouncer blank from NFC in the 1/2 to 3/4 Oz range and have been unsuccessful in finding a good recommendation. Is there a blank for something like this? In ND it is pretty much standard practice to troll around using spinners and bottom bouncers all summer long looking for walleye, but also wanting a rod to occasionally jig

Is 18 RPM to quick to dry a rod overnight? I have a 9 RPM starter mudhole rod dyer and thinking of upgrading to an 18 RPM Flex coat finisher. But before buying one wanted to make sure I didn't still need to take it from the 18 RPM to something slower for drying. Thanks Jason

I've never done what you're doing, but I'm going to throw out a guess that it is something to do with the lay of the fiber. If you look at a roof that has shingles from the ground, it looks totally different from looking at it from standing on the peak. From the peak all the shingles seem seamless, but clearly not so from below.

Oh my.... For some reason I totally forgot I could unthread the hood on a uni hood. Thank you Chris for the reminder. Ha. After I read your post I thought "duh."

Hello, Should I epoxy the G2 hood sleeve to the uni hood before I epoxy the reel seat to the blank or after? Thanks Jason

Thank you for the replies. I hadn't thought about any of the suggestions. Was thinking if I messed with it the wrap would unravel. Didn't know it was fixed with epoxy to the core the entire surface area. Makes more sense now.

Hello, What do you use as a winding check or trim piece for carbon fiber grips on the side that isn't cut straight and has rough edges and kind of a lip? I stacked two different size rubber winding checks in to each other but I don't really like the look. An example of the grips I am talking about are the CFX carbon fiber ones sold by Mudhole. Thank you Jason

It's the G2 razor and all the grip components are G2. How does that get transitioned from the hood locking nut and set to the rest of the blank? Is there a certain type of winding check I need? I guess the part that's messing me up is that the hood spins and spins out longer then the rest of the reel seat.

Hello, I ordered my first casting reel seat with a unihood to see how they assemble and I am wondering what people typically do for trim or a foregrip. I was unaware that I couldnt just slide a foregrip down the blank and glue it up next to the reel seat like a non unilocking hood. The reel seat is a G2 casting seat. I see American tackle makes a long trim piece to fit the seat and make th

Does anyone make a spinning seat that will keep the actual blank exposed, or are they all inserts? Havent ever used one of these and have been trying to figure it out by photos.

Looking to build a casting rod and am looking at the carbon fiber grips as something different then cork and EVA. Having never seen or held a carbon fiber grip, I am wondering if they are something that is slippery when its wet and or slimy from fish?seems like it almost looks like plastic in the pictures and plastic would definitely get slippery. Thank you

How much flame can a typical ultra light blank take before it gets damaged? The reason I am asking is because on the 5 rods I've built i decided to epoxy the tip top on instead of using the tip top glue stick method because I'm concerned I wont get the tip straight and that heating the glue back up to take it off to re-do with an alcohol burner will damage the blank. Can you actually touch

Read everyone's replies and definitely some things I'm going to have to experiment with. I totally over looked the fact that the rod guides contribute to hook setting power. Makes a lot of sense, just not one of those things I would have thought about.

Hello all, new to rod building here and have a question regarding guide placement and the line angle. It is my understanding that while doing a static load test by bending the rod to a ninety degree angle that you are supposed to place the guides on a spinning setup so that you minimize the angle of the line between the guide and the blank, trying to keep it as parallel with the rod blank as
