Thanks Russ
I will definitely look at these options too.
This rod is mostly just a workhorse rather than something fancy so price and functionality are high considerations.
The main reason for building this rod is that no-one makes 12 foot overhead fibreglass rods anymore. At one point here in Aus they were as common, if not more so than egg beaters (spin rods). I learned to fish on overheads

Thanks Roger,
After Googling "Fuji BNHG guides" those are definitely the ones I'm talking about.
I'll happily take those off your hands if you don't want them anymore.
Is there a way I can private message you?
I clicked on your name but this forum doesn't seem to have PM capabilities
edit: Here's my address anyway.

Hi.
I'm trying to find a particular set of rod guides and was wondering if anyone could help.
I'm looking for a set of guides that will be impact resistant. Often AC or SIC guides are embedded in a steel frame, when the steel frame is bumped it transfers the impact to the much harder (and more brittle) AC/SIC resulting in the rings cracking.
I have an older fishing rod that has AC guides s

7. Which spine?
I'm making 12 foot overhead on a 4 wrap medium taper fibreglass blank.
Overheads on such soft rods are prone to turning under load if the spine is not accurately chosen.
A quick palm roll suggests that my blank has two 180 degree opposed spines.
Do I want to use the weaker of these two spines? My plan was to affix the rod and attach a small weight to the end and test which spine bends the most

Hi everyone.
I'm about to venture into my first attempt at rod building and I have some questions and would appreciate your input.
Please feel free to poke holes in any of my ideas.
I'm based in Australia, so some of the terminology and fish species may be unfamiliar to people here (apologies).
I want to make a rod that will primarily be used to target sea bream and tailor (bluefish?) fr
